— Amazing Fans Pt.1: Making Dolls
Many Ghostbuster fans have started detailing their passion online. Some build props, others make art or write fan fiction. And some get really creative. Jade, a fan of a number of cartoons, has started making her own Ghostbuster dolls, like the RGB team pictured here. Using hand painted wood and handmade cloth bodies Jade has created some amazing dolls.
Not 100% happy with available GB toys? Make your own! Keep up the neat work Jade.
[UPDATE] After a long dormancy, Jade has resurfaced – read more here.

— Russian republic issues GB stamp

No kidding. The tiny Russian republic of Abkhazia has become quite famous lately for issuing special stamps (a favorite of many small countries looking to make, I dunno, a name for themselves – serious, raise your hand if you knew where Abkhazia was.) One sheet of particular interest to GB fans is the “films of the 1980s” sheet. The sheet of nine stamps features such 80s classics as The Blues Brothers, Indiana Jones, Terminator, and of course, Ghostbusters. It’s a nice image of all four guys taking a shot at Gozer [correction: taking a shot at the slime shell in GB2. It’s the same photo as the GB2 cover of Cinefex. Thanks Bigg Boss]. Click here if you’re interested in picking some up.
A sheet sells for around $6US.

— Tomart's features RGB figures.
Action figure fans will want to pick up this month’s Tomart’s Action Figure Digest. Issue 92 (November) of the guide has a big feature on The Real Ghostbuster action figures. And I mean big. In addition to the usual, comprehensive Tomart’s coverage (which includes high quality photos of all the figures and a price guide) there is also a much more indepth photo collection of unproduced figures in the line and an interesting article on the rights dispute between Filmation and Columbia Pictures.
We’ve often assumed that Filmation opened litigation against Columbia. As it turns out (or at least according to Tomart’s article) Columbia was free and clear to use “Ghostbusters” without Filmation’s permission. When Filmation began work on their cartoon Ghost Busters, it was Columbia who turned it into a legal issue. You learn something new everyday.
— Every Ghostheads Wishlist
Turn to page 16 of the latest issue of Toyfare magazine and you’ll think you’re dreaming. Created especially for Toyfare’s monthly Wishlist feature is a 12″ Peter Venkman doll. Nice. The feature also calls for other figures, including Egon, Ray, Dana, and Louis. Sadly absent, again, is Winston. Boooo.
The figure was created by Andgor Toys, makers of custom 12″ figures, parts, and accessories. In the past they’ve done some amazing custom figures, including one of Fletch and Tyler Durden (Fight Club). The best part of the whole Venkman figure story is that for a mere 30 bucks, they’ll sell you a copy of their head sculpt (#040 on the link page. Sadly, you’ll have to do the rest of the body yourself). Now you know what to ask Santa for Christmas.

— Aykroyd GB flightsuit sold.
Y’see what happens when I get busy? I miss all the cool stuff. In June, Entertainment Rarites, a Sotheby’s associate company and dealers of fine movie and rock memorabilia, auctioned off one of Dan Aykroyd’s jumpsuits from Ghostbusters. The verified item (it has a costumer’s label on the inside, which was very cool) was apraised at $8000-$10000US, but ultimately sold, after one bid, for $6900US. Check out the auction website, which should remain up for another few weeks at least, for more information. Like, Dan Aykroyd had a 29 inch inseam in 1984. Facinating.

— Firehall – writ small.

Well, I can honestly say that I’ve never seen a cooler playhouse, except for maybe the one made to look like a battlemech. I don’t know who the lucky kid is, but they owe their parents big-time for this one. Besides the swingset, the replica GB firehall comes with a revolving light, “containment unit”, and the GB2 sign hanging out front. Lilliput Playhomes has a number of dealers, so with enough dough you could own one yourself.

— Johnny Lightning releases more GB diecasts.
The ever vigilant River of Slime has spotted an announcement that Playing Mantis, makers of Johnny Lightning die-cast cars (including an excellent Ecto-1a a few years back) will be releasing a GB diorama 2-pack. The two car set will come with the Ecto-1a (it appears to be identical to the one release on its own as part of the Frightning Lightning line) and a New York City police car (no picture available, but presumably it will match the cars of the era – and by era, I mean 1984). Johnny Lightning will also be releasing a Scooby-Doo diorama at the same time, with the Mystery Machine and a herse (pictured above). Watch for this at toy and specialty stores in May of this year.

— Johnny Lightning GB diorama UPDATE.

Ever vigilant JESUSFREAK spotted this Johnny Lightning report from Toyfair 2003 at figures.com. Included in their coverage was a photo of the GB New York police car pack. The mini diorama comes complete with the car, a NY backdrop (with slimer), and a selection of to scale human figures, all in a regular sized bubble pack. No sign of the Ghostbusters pack as yet, though the Scooby-Doo pack, noticably lacking in any identifiable Scooby-Doo characters, makes one wonder if the Ecto-1a pack will have actual Ghostbuster figures.

— GB cereal flexi-discs

[UPDATE] My man Pete dropped me a line to clarify the issue of there being two flexi-discs released for the contest. Essentially, they are both the same, audio wise, only Egon asks a different set of questions. Both discs are black, but while one is printed in gold (that’s the one I have) the other is printed in blue. Now I know what to look out for. Thanks Pete!
I’ve been meaning to post this for awhile now, but the big stumbling block has been that I didn’t actually have a record player. Well, that’s not the case any more, so I have a surprise.
[audio:Ghostbusters2_cerealcontest.mp3]
Ralston New Ghostbusters Movie Mystery Record – Egon Version A
Back with the release of the second movie, Ralston, makers of the Ghostbusters cereal, held a contest to meet an actual Ghostbuster. To win the contests, kids would look inside their box of cereal (a number of Ralston brands besides the Ghostbusters cereal, including Cookie Crisp, were part of the contest) and find a Flexi-disc inside. The Flexi-disc contained an announcer and “Egon Spengler” (one Maurice Lamarche from The Real Ghostbusters). Over a minute was spent telling kids to see the new movie before Egon read a series of really easy questions. Kids would then send in their answers and hopefully win. There were apparently two version of the disc (Buy more cereal kids!), though I’ve never heard how it was different (perhaps another RGB voice actor?). If anyone here has heard the other disc, wants to sell me their disc, or was one of the winning kids who’d like to share the experience with the class, please drop me a line.
— ERTL to release 1/18 scale Ecto-1.
While details are slim, Collectors Net USA has posted information stating that ERTL, through their American Muscle line, will be producing a 1/18 scale Ecto-1. The die-cast, preassembled car (this is not a model kit) will be available this December apparently. I’m trying to find out more information and will let you know as soon as I know more.

— X-Entertainment chews bubble-gum and kicks ass.
X-Entertainment, purveyors of reverent, yet cynical nostalgia, has once again visited the land of GB (“we make things right”). This time they’ve decided to examine Slimer
Bubble-Gum. If you don’t remember this stuff, it was gum that came in a tube. There was a wide variety of tube gum back then, though it was an odd concept. After all, what’s
the point of bubble-gum that’s already at a chewed consistancy? Anyhow, to learn more about this gum (or at least what it like to consume some 15 years after it came out)
you can read the article here.
X-Entertainment’s previous looks at Ghostbusters includes a review of the RGB episode, “Citizen Ghost” and
Ghostbusters and Tacos (about the Taco Bell ads around the time the GB DVD was released).

— Johhny Lightning diecast diorama – Update.
Well, here’s some good news and bad news about the Johnny Lightning Ghostbuster Diorama set. The bad news is that the set won’t be available in May, as we’d originally heard – instead it will be available in June. The good news is that the set will in fact contain little diecast miniatures of the boys in grey. Jeff Koch, Johnny Lightning Brand Manager, recently posted on the Hobby Talk forums that the set would contain the Ecto-1 (apparently not the Ecto-1a previously released by JL), a NY city police car (seen way below at the New York Toy Fair), and the four Ghostbusters wielding their proton packs. Yes. Four. As in, “Winston inclusive”. So, time to start sucking up to your local specialty retailer.
For comparison, see the figures in the already released Back to the Future diorama set, seen above.

— Florida car museum sells off Ecto-1.
After falling on hard times, Klassix Auto Attraction
sold off it’s collection of TV and movie vehicles. Amoung them was
an Ecto-1 (there is no confirmation that the car was used on-screen or if it was a car-show replica), which sold for
$55,000US – a price higher than anyone expected. While not named, the ghostbusting vehicle was apparently sold to a museum in
Illinois (anyone who might know where, please feel free to contact me).
Besides the Ecto-1, the auction also saw the sale of The Batmobile (one of 5 used on the show), K.I.T.T., and the motocycles
from CHiPs.
— Ramis interviewed at DVD IGN.
Stopped to briefly talk about DVDs, Harold Ramis had a couple of things to say about working with Bill Murray and
on the Ghostbusters movies.
“Running around Manhattan in New York in those Ghostbusters suits, and driving that ambulance around. That was a lot of fun.”
For the entire (rather short) interview, go here.
[UPDATE – May 13th] The second part of the interview was posted today. Go here to
read the latest installment. Thanks to crazymrtibbs and Tobin2027.
— GB producer sells priceless GB item.
Those of you who have read the Making Ghostbusters book will recall that Sigourney Weaver wrote a humourous poem to
read at the wrap party for Ghostbusters. Well, associate producer on the film, Michael C. Gross, is
auctioning
the item off on eBay. The price is steep, but the item itself is amazing. No confirmation on the validity of the
item has been made as yet, but it appears genuine. Start counting your pennies.

— RGB Tahiti soundtrack available online.

You know those bits in the middle of an RGB episode where the action played out to some boppy, 80s tracks? Those were performed by the duo Tahiti
(Tyren Perry and Tonya Townsend).
While super hard to find, they did release an album of the songs. And now, thanks to the magic of the Internet and the generous nature of
The Unofficial Ghostbusters Download Center, you can get all 10 tracks in MP3 format. The original
source pre-dates common CD use as I recall, and was thus probably cassette or record – which makes the quality of the MP3s that much more
surprising. Fans of the Real Ghostbusters and 80s music should check these out!
— ECTO-1a lands in Roscoe, Il.
After some small confusion, some vague investigation, and a couple of emails from wise PC readers, the Ecto-1a that was purchased from
Klassix Auto Attraction in Florida a couple of months ago has turned up. The car has a new home at the Historic Auto Museum in Roscoe, Illinois.
I talked to the museum and the car was, according to them, used in filming and not a replica. At some point some elements were removed from the roof
rack – most notably
the scrolling lightboard, which makes sense, as they can be easily reused elsewhere. The car is apparently signed by custom car designer, George Barris,
who as it’s
been pointed out to me, built replicas of the vehicle, but didn’t work in the actual movie vehicles. So much for them not being replicas.
In any case, it’s still a cool item to check out. Thanks to Kingpin for the
heads up regarding the replica situation.

— More info on IL. Ecto-1a
Mere days after Kingpin set me straight about the Ecto-1a recently added to The Historical Auto Museum in Roscoe, IL. (article below – the short of it
is that it’s a John Barris replica, not a movie original vehicle), Ziggy sent in some pics he took of the car when he saw it in its old home in Florida.
You can see how the car, while a sweet restoration of a Superior Hearse (not a Miller Meteor – still, I’d drive it around town with pride), isn’t
very careful in the details (which may have been be design, in order to skirt hassles with the studio). Amoung other things, the logo is someone’s handmade version,
the ad lettering reads “Call Me”, I’m mostly certain the phone number is wrong and the roof rack is a little underwhelming (the museum said the lightboards had
been removed at some point – I doubt they were ever on this car). Still, the car is signed by John Barris (of the world-famous Barris family of
custom cars) and someone attempted to make a 3D sign board, a first movie cousin to the one seen in the second movie. Neat! Click the little pictures to
see the bigger pictures. Thanks Ziggy! PC loves gettin’
pics!

— The Juice mystery solved.

Those nuts at X-Entertainment have once again put Ghostbusters under the microscope and revealed some juicy info. This time they
go in search of Ecto-Cooler – whatever happened to it? And why the heck did it survive until 1998, nearly a decade after the last movie?
My particular favorite is when they go buy some Hi-C juices that are supposed to be the liquid decendants of the original flavour and discover that
the bar code reader still displays the new boxes as “Hi-C Ecto Cool”.
This article goes further and acts as a bit of a correction for an
earlier article on the juice. As a bonus, I noticed that X-E found a 1986 Toys R Us catalog, which includes a listing for the “new”
Real Ghostbusters board game by Milton Bradley (only $12.97!). For some of X-Entertainment’s old GB articles,
check out this old news item.

— 1/18th scale die-cast Ecto-1 officially announced.
While we’ve known about it for awhile, through various rumblings on collector message boards and through listings at online dealers, the 1/18th scale Ecto-1 has never been officially announced. Well, now it has. The one surprise is that the car (bigger than all previous die-cast Ectos and not a model kit) isn’t being handled by RC2 subsidiary ERTL, as was originally thought, but by Joyride Studios. Joyride Studio is notable for their line of keen video game related figures, including one of GB community elder Dan Elektro. Not much news other than that, but stick around, there’s sure to be more. Currently the license is believed to be of the Ecto-1, not the Ecto-1a, as Johnny Lightning holds the license for the 1A.

— 1/18th scale Ecto-1 prototype revealed.

This month’s Previews magazine has solicited orders for a 1/18th scale, die-cast Ecto-1. While there is no manufacturer information, one assumes that this is the upcoming car offered by Joyride Studios. As a bonus, the catalog has some pictures labeled as being prototype pictures, which includes a Slimer figure! What? With a closer look, you can see scrolling, side light bars. In fact, judging by the roof rack equipment, it looks a lot like the Ecto-1a. So, for now, I’m not sure what to make of the pictures. The listing does specifically say “ecto-1”, but the mistake has been made before. The car is soliciting for an April 2004 ship date and has a suggested retail price of $40US.

— NECA figures listed for purchase.
This month’s Previews magazine is soliciting orders of the Ghostbusters monster figures by NECA (see below), specifically the 15″ Mr. Stay-puft and two Terror Dogs. Stay-puft is listed at a SRP of $16 and the Terror Dogs are listed at $12 each. While no release date has been announced, being solicited in Previews usually means a release date thre months from now. This being the February Previews, that would be April-May.
[UPDATE] RD, at the Ghostbusters Message Boards, spotted some cool pics of the figures at the Action Figure News website. The Terror Dogs appear to be the same picture flipped and Slimer and Stay-puft are made from the same sculpts as NECA’s Headknocker figures – however, as these are early PR art, it’s unlikely that they represent the final product. More important is the ACN article that accompanies the pictures that says that word at the UK Toyfair (where the pictures were scored) is that NECA has all the character likeness rights from the movie. If that’s true, then hopefully we’ll see other, human, characters, like Louis, Dana, Janine, and the boys themselves.
[UPDATE MORE] My man Duran sent me a link from figures.com, where they provide little info, but some more sweet pictures of the figures, with a promise of more good stuff to come this week.
— Joyride Die-cast Ecto-1 still coming.

Boy, why couldn’t all this have happened four years ago when I had all the time in the world? Being a grown-up bites some times. Guyver got his hands on the Joyride catalog recently, which features a listing for the 1/18th scale die-cast Ecto-1 due to come out shortly – and as an extra surprise, the catalog features a series of hot-rodding, stylized cars, including cars from The Dukes of Hazzard, Starsky and Hutch, and Ghostbusters. The picture is just a concept illustration, but it certainly makes the eyes pop. Each car is listed as being 8 inches long.

— NECA clears up rumour.
Randy Falk is a stand-up kind of guy. He was nice and accessible at San Deigo Comic Con and even though he’s currently up to his eyeballs in prepartions for Toy Fair 2004, he found a moment to answer a few questions. First, the good news, as he confirmed that the first series of monster figures is slated for a mid-May release. Now the bad news; The UK Toyfair rumour that NECA has the likeness rights to the principle cast is just that – a rumour. Falk says he’s not sure where it started, but NECA does not have the likeness rights for the actors. I suspect that maybe the planned production of the Genome (blocky style) figures, which do include the boys in grey, just heavily stylized, led to some miscommunication on the matter. Good luck at Toy Fair Randy – we’re all rooting for the figure line.
— NECA releases more figure pics.
NECA has posted some more pics of thier upcoming GB monster figs, including a big close-up of Gozer’s second, “calm” head (the figure comes with two interchangable heads, one calm, one angry.) They also put up a hostbusters product page (click “products” at the page-top to see all their product links, including Ghostbusters), which confirmed what Previews catalog couldn’t, namely that the string of Christmas style lights, with Slimer and the No-Ghost logo covers, are a NECA product. The lights were solicited two months ago, and should be in stores shortly, if not already.

— 1/18th scale pics starting to circulate.

Everybody’s favorite action figure, Dan Elektro – of the Bay Area Ghostbusters (not to be confused with the Bay City Rollers) – forwarded me a scan of the 1/18th scale, die-cast Ecto-1 (click here for a bigger version of the image.) The car looks sweet and the Slimer looks slimey (and wired on caffine), so what more can you ask for?
| credit Dan Elektro
— Something that could never hurt us.
NECA has posted some sweet pics of their Mr. Stay Puft figure and the verdict here is, awesome! The figure is much smoother than the wobbler figure and while it’s obviously not to scale, it still towers over the other figures in the line.
| credit Netsolo
— Wobblers hit stores.
At long last, NECAs Ghostbusters Head Wobblers have made it into stores. As you can see by the rushed picture (yes they have faces and yes, I didn’t take the time to pull the pricetags off) I’m pretty excited. For those who are interested, I got mine for $15.50 CDN.
— Mystery Slimer at Toy Fair.
Filmforce at IGN has great ongoing coverage of this year’s New York Toy Fair, and in their sizable coverage of NECA’s various hot properties, they made passing mention of the Ghostbusters line – they also included a nice picture of some of the GB items at the NECA booth, including the action figures, the string lights… AND A REALLY BIG SLIMER! Using the 15 inch Mohawk (from Gremlins) and Mr. Stay Puft in the back, the slimer figure is about 10-12″ tall. Is it a bust? Is it a maquette used by the production team? And what’s that wire running from it? Well, UGO turned up the answer with their
coverage of the fair.” As for Slimer, don’t miss out on a large, rubber-skinned statue of the ghost that dances around to the Ghostbusters’ theme at the push of a button. OOOOooooooooh. They also put it’s release date at April, but word from Randy makes it sound more like June.
— More Dancing Slimer info.

One website has begun offering the Dancing Slimer, at a price of $29.99US (that is not the manufacturer suggested price, and should be taken with a grain of salt) and Figures.com has this great close-up of the spud, which shows the dancing controls better. The control looks a little, well, bare, so my suspicion is that the controls are in the base of the figure, but were rigged up by wire for the show, so people wouldn’t have to handle the display.
— Ecto-1 die-cast box revealed.
PC reader and news patron extraordinaire, Ryan LeClair, sent me a heads up while I was away about an ebay auction for the Ecto-1 1/18th scale die-cast which showed a nice shot of the car and more interestingly, the package. Have a gander above. Thanks to vs-diecast.com for borrowing their image – I had a quick look at their auctions and if you can’t meet your die-cast needs locally, you might consider checking them out.

— 1/18th scale Ecto-1 rolls out… slowly

While its release has been rather quiet, the 1/18th scale die-cast Ecto-1 is actually about to be released this June. And, thanks to Dan Elektro (of the Bay Area Ghostbusters), it turns out it’s not actually 1/18th as we’d thought all along, but more like 1/21st scale. The car is a big car in real life and was made slightly smaller than 1/18th scale so as not to be too big as a die-cast car. Dan also included a lot of nice pictures of his car. I’ve put all of Dan’s pictures, as well as his comments on the car, in the Joyride section. Paul Nomad at ActionFigure.com also sent me thier review of the car, complete with even more pictures. You can check that out here. Thanks to Paul for his link, which has a link where you can buy the car online, and extra thanks to Dan, who has kept me in the loop with his early look at the
car, and who sent a buying link to Diecastexpress.com, which is the offical retailer for Joyride, ERTL, etc.

From Dan Elektro
“Just got it about an hour ago. No retail box but the unit itself is complete. A few accessories have to be put on by the owner. Those four pieces that stick up come sealed to the back cardboard, along with Slimer. The small writing that can be seen over the rear wheel appears only on the left side; it says
KEEP CLEAR
ECTOPLASMIC RESIDUE
OVERFLOW DRAIN
DO NOT INHALE VAPORS
Driver door, passenger door, hood, and rear door all open. There is not a tray for proton packs in the rear bay; the rear door won’t open far enough to accomodate that anyway. Dunno if you can remove the whip antennas; I do not want to. Steering wheel turns the front axle. It’s attached to the base with screws which you can remove; the car rolls.”

— Ramis recounts Second City in SCTV DVD

I’ve been lucky enough to get a sneak peek at the SCTV Network 90 DVD set that comes out this June and I thought it might be of interest to Ghostheads. While Rick Moranis wasn’t available for any of the extras, Harold Ramis is all over the set, providing insight and memories of his time in Second City and on SCTV. The featurettes, which Ramis is interviewed for, also feature lots of behind the scenes pictures of other SCTV allumnus, including John Candy, Rick Moranis, Dan Aykroyd, and more. Also of interest is a character Moranis plays on the show that I didn’t remember, a nerdy worker at the network – let’s just say he’s awfully Louis like. You can see for yourself when the set comes out this summer.
— UK fans get free RGB episode on DVD.
In one of the coolest promotions I’ve heard of, the Daily Express newpaper in the UK joined up with Fox Kids to
give away DVDs with some cool cartoons. Fans could pick up the paper, clip a coupon, which they could redeem at
any Woolworth’s for one region 2 DVD with three cartoons. Over the 6 days of the promotion, fans could collect 18 cartoon
episodes. The Real Ghostbusters episode “Mr. Sandman, Dream Me a Dream” was available on the Tuesday, May 10th. Also available
were Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, X-men, Robot Wars, etc. For more info,
check here.
Some people have reported that the disc promises that the series will be coming out on DVD, but there is no information on that
yet.

— NECA announces series 2 plans
Popping into the GBHQ message boards, NECA rep Randy Falk shared a few tid-bits of info. First off, the first series of Ghostbuster monsters action figures will be released in June, not May as originally announced, though May will see the NECA site cover the figs heavily, with lots of sneak peaks and in-depth looks. Secondly, the second series would be coming out in 2005 and – steady now – would include the boys in grey themselves. Back in February Falk shot down the rumour floating around the UK Toyfair that NECA had the actor likeness rights. But that didn’t mean they weren’t going to try for them apparently.
“At this time I can not confirm if they will have actor likenesses or a stylized look. We are still working on rights and approvals so I can not say more at this time. I hope to have more specific details for you later this Summer.”But first things first – NECA took the first series on the road, showing them off at the New Jersey based Chiller Theatre Horror Con and getting a massive, positive reaction from the crowd. May starts in a couple of days, so get ready to pop by the NECA site for more information about the first series figs.
— Proton Pack prop up for auction

UPDATE: The first item, a proton pack,
closed at nearly $13,000US. The second pack, a foam version used for action sequences and long shots (and thus isn’t as
good looking as the first pack) is up to $1000US.
The
Statue of Liberty model closed at $1200US.
UPDATE: The good folks putting on the auction sent a few pictures of one of the packs – yes, I said one. They will,
according to the email, be selling not one, but two proton packs from Ghostbusters 2, but a model of the Statue of
Liberty by EFX Studios (no word on if it walks or not – hyuk.)
I got a note today from Hollywood Vault – on Sept. 30th, one of the prop packs used in the filming of
Ghostbusters 2 will be put up for auction on eBay.
“Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE) has teamed up with e-commerce company Rainmakers to auction off specially selected items from the motion picture studios historic prop and wardrobe collection. Memorabilia from such films as Ghostbusters, Men In Black, Hook, Sleepless In Seattle and Bram Stokers Dracula will be available through the hollywoodvault.net website in an exclusive online eBay auction beginning Septem ber30. The auction will be available to all of eBays 95 million users worldwide.
SPE is donating a portion of the proceeds to the Motion Picture & Television Fund (MPTF), a foundation created over 80 years ago to assist people who have worked in the entertainment community by continuously evolving to meet their health and human services needs.”
I expect this item will easily hit the thousands of dollars by auction’s end. As well, the are auctioning off
items from Men In Black and Groundhog Day.

— It's one of our little toys
Profiles In History is auctioning off some major GB and GB2 props through eBay. With the least expensive item starting at $400US, this isn’t an auction for the average collector, but then these aren’t average collectibles. Sold off by producer Michael C. Gross, who kept the items for years, PIH is using eBay’s Live Auction system to sell them to the public.
Live Auction is a basically a series of hoops that need to be jumped through in order to be confirmed as an eligible bidder during the real-time auction. I know I’ll be curious to see how much some of these items go for.

— GB soundtrack re-issued
This one slipped by quietly, but on April 26th, the Ghostbuster soundtrack was re-issued on CD by Collectables Records (not by BMG, who issued it in 1984.) The SLP through online retailers, like Amazon is $13.98, but a mere $7.98 through CR’s online store (actually, less than that, with their discount. It should also be available at your local record shop – if not, ask them to bring it in.
— GB UMD listed

The UMD format release of Ghostbusters, due August 2nd (PSP owners take note – see below), is now officially listed on Sony’s website and at Amazon.com (for all your pre-order needs.) According to the Sony page, the disc will present GB in “widescreen”, with two channel sound (d’accord), and subtitles for French, English, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, Korean, and Thai. “Widescreen” is in quotes, as the film was originally presented in CinemaScope (2.35:1) and the PSP has a 16:9 screen ratio, which suggests that while the UMD version won’t be as badly cropped as full-screen video versions, it won’t have the whole frame as it’s presented in the DVD versions. Let’s hope not, but with a screen that small, shrinking the height of the movie isn’t much of an option.
There also seems to be some confusion between Sony’s press release SLP of $11.59US and Amazon’s SLP of $19.95US (with their “savings” you can buy it for $14.96.) Given that Sony released an SLP of $19.94US for the upcoming DVD gift set (see below), perhaps Amazon is just confused. Time will tell, stay tuned.
— GB giftset back cover
The backcover for the Ghostbusters DVD giftset has been revealed. Not much can be gleaned from it, other than that there are no extras on the GB2 disc (as some had hoped) and the covers mimic the box art (green goo with logos.) Which animated episodes are included isn’t listed, but both are on the GB2 disc. It also appears that both movies will be available in both widescreen and full screen. The GB2 disc was originally offered like this, with a version on each side, but the GB disc was only offered in widescreen.
From the fuzzy blurb on the back;
“…a deluxe Collector’s Scrapbook, loaded with productions notes, character sketches, insider info, and more.”
UPDATE: From Sony Customer Service;
“Ghostbusters 1 & 2 Giftset will be released in its original widescreen presentation formats. An earlier notice may have indicated that the release also included full screen versions, but that information was released prematurely.”
So, no fullscreen versions, just widescreen – no big deal, right?

— Custom RGB action figure packs
Justin Anderson has been sending me updates on a little project he’s been working on – by taking the neutrona wand from the Green Ghost Kenner figure and marrying it to a slightly modified RGB proton pack, he’s got a more movie-like pack for his RGBs. Oh, but the fun doesn’t stop there – Justin has gone out and had black plastic copies made of both pieces, so the packs aren’t painted or the original blue / red plastics. Word is he’ll have the finished products soon enough – with luck he’ll send pics. With even more luck, he’ll think about making them available to other fans.
In the meantime, Justin has started working on a more ambitious Kylie mod that better reflects how she looks on the show and he outlined some other plans that are crazy! I can’t wait to see em.
— Custom RGB thrower available

I erred in my last post – Justin didn’t have molds made for the backpacks, though he says it’s a simple enough thing to have done, rather he spraypainted them black (like you see in the picture.) In any case, he received the throwers he had replicated and they look pretty cool. His plan is to use one for each of the 6 RGB characters (Ray, Peter, Winston, Egon, Janine, and Louis) – and extra he will be selling on eBay. For those of you that can’t wait, Transrepro.com (the guys that made the molds for Justin) is selling them for $5.
UPDATE: Transrepro is a small operation, so anyone ordering from them should bear this in mind and be patient waiting for their order to be filled. Justin is apparently planning to get the packs made in black as well, but that won’t be for some time yet. If there is sufficent interest, Justin has plans to get molds made for RGB figure-suitable PKE meters and ghost traps.
— Dancing Slimer… dancing

While a hard shelf date hasn’t been announced (July is as specific as it gets) at least one of NECA’s Dancing Slimer figures has made it out into the real world (suggesting that the wiggly toy could be in stores any time now.) One ebay auction for the slimer has appeared, and unlike the usual spate of pre-orders disguised as auctions, this listing actually has video footage of the dancing spud. As it seems to take forever to load on the auction page (and as not to put any unfair stress on their bandwidth) you can download the clip from PC. Please, if you’re going to want to watch it more than once, right-click to download the file onto your local machine.
The song is a little hard to hear, but it doesn’t sound like the Ray Parker Jr. version. It doesn’t actually sound like any version, which may mean it was produced specifically for the toy. The video also provides a nice look at the packaging, which is simlar to the open box the Stay Puft 18″ figure came in.
| credit to DR.J
— Dancing Slimer hitting stores now
Randy Falk at NECA was kind enough to confirm that Dancing Slimer is dancing his way into stores as I type this. He also confirmed that the GB theme Slimer wiggles to was specially recorded for the toy, as speculated. You can blame Huey Lewis I guess.
— Update of UMD cover?

On a seperate page on the Sony website, the above image is used for the upcoming UMD release of Ghostbusters for the PSP. The first image seen used the same cover as the original DVD release, but this new cover is the same as the upcoming DVD, 2-disc box set, which makes a tad more sense – however, until Sony gets it’s wires uncrossed and picks a single cover, it’s hard to say for certain if this is the actual cover going to be used.
— Sneak peak at gift set scrapbook
DavisDVD.com has posted an early look at some of the 2-disc GB DVD giftset’s scrapbook. For the most part, it looks like some of the material found in the first DVD extras, and other familiar materials repackaged into the booklet. Which is great for the average Joe who doesn’t already have that material. For the rest of us…

— More GB2 props for sale
Profiles in History (and by “history” they mean “movies”) is selling two more items from Ghostbusters 2. This time it’s Harold Ramis’ jumpsuit (complete with GB2 patch) and one of the boys’ utility belts. Better jump in fast and take out that second mortgage though – the jumpsuit’s starting price is a mere $8K.

— RGB eps for DVD announced
So, word has it that Citizen Ghost and Partners in Slime are the two RGB episodes to be included on the upcoming Ghostbusters/Ghostbusters2 DVD double set. Someone has also been posting screenshots of the new transfers, for comparison. And I have to say, the colour clean-up looks pretty good. One week left!

— DVD gift-set early look
Well, we’re three sleeps away from the new GB DVD gift set, and pics have started to come out from people lucky enough to get an early copy. The two disc set isn’t much thicker than the average DVD case, with the two movie discs in thin cases, then packaged with the booklet into a slip case. While early reaction to the slime motif was mixed, the sketchbook style on the back continues into the booklet and discs themselves (each disc has a pencil sketch of the movie’s logo.)
Word has it that some retailers are offering an incentive Stay Puft figure (about 5 inches tall) with the set, but calls to the local Best Buy turned up nothin’. But keep and eye out, you never know.

— How to get that Stay Puft incentive
So, here’s how you get one of those tiny Mr. Stay-Puft figures with your gift set DVD. In order to get one, you have to pre-order the disc anytime before closing tomorrow (I know, I know, I just found out myself) at Sam Goody, Media Play, Suncoast or Musicland. You’ll get the set for $15 (not $20) and apparently a keen Mr. Stay-Puft. Better hustle though. UPDATE: Thanks to Hayden “The King” for dropping me a line to let me know that the Stay-puft is a car antennae topper! Sadly, Canada is devoid of them, but if you’re in the US, try and get your hands on one.

— "Go check on that little guy!" DVD incentive photo and Ramis/Reitman talk

Well, for those of us in Canada (or anyone in the US who missed their chance) Joey Ellis sent some pictures of the antennae topper of Mr. Stay-Puft – how very cool. Now, everyone glare at Joey with envy (just kidding Joey – thanks). And if you’re looking for something to read, Chad at Ghostbusters.net send a link for a Harold Ramis interview recently conducted to coincide with the new DVD release. There’s some nice stuff in there – after all these years, it’s nice to hear a couple of new things about the making of the movie. In addition, if you can get the video to play (I had terrible playback results) Ramis and Reitman dropped by the CBS studios to plug the set.

— Rare RGB toys for sale on ebay

Well now, there’s something you don’t see everyday.
Just before the Real Ghostbusters was brought to a sad end, work was underway for a playset of Egon’s lab. A prototype was developed, but never made it to production, leaving fans to admire it through song, story, and the occassional magazine article. But now, dear friends, you have a chance to own it. Well, it’s not a great chance – the damn thing’s got over a week left in its ebay auction, and it’s already up to $500. But you can dream!
Maybe more to your style would be a couple of rare EGB toys produced in the UK. I’ve never seen them in North America, but there they are – Roland and Eduardo figures with their keen mini-vehicles! Relatively cheap!

— PC v.4.1
You might notice a little something odd about PC – don’t be alarmed, I’ve just incorporated the posting system, archives, and general goodness of Moveable Type into the website. I’ve been posting news to Proton Charging the hard way for the better part of ten years. I figure that’s enough. Plus, in spite of periods lean on news, PC has generated enough material over the years that archiving it in a fashion that’s useful to me and you has become a requirement.
So, you’ll notice things slowly changing as I move old news and articles to the new system – in the meantime they’ll remain as they are. Those items already archived may appear a little oddly – there are still a few bugs to work out.
AND…
News items have comments, which will allow you, gentle PC reader, to, well, comment. The term is misleading though – the system is so that PC readers can contribute to the news; found a sweet deal on the DVD? Let readers know! But, it’s not a message board – the GB community has enough of those already. The comment system isn’t a right – anything that doesn’t fit the PC vibe gets trashed. It’s a bit of an experiment that I’d like to see work, so no horsing around.
Onward!
— GB UMD – a quick look inside

Not all of us own a Sony PSP, so if you’re curious about what the new Universal Media Disc edition of Ghostbusters looks like, now you can have a look for yourself. Funny lookin things, aren’t they?
|credit Tim
[UPDATE] Jaffone posted a link for a review of the UMD – this is good, as I haven’t got a clue what makes a good UMD. I was surprised to discover that they actually can have extras – not that the GB disc has extras, but it could have. I thought all the space was devoted to the film track, but I guess if there’s room…
— The other guys get a DVD release – Ernie goes abroad

While Sony toys with the idea of putting the Real Ghostbusters on DVD (so far the only DVD releases have been the two UK discs, the free give-away UK disc, and the two episodes included on the new gift set) Filmation has started releasing their Original Ghostbusters cartoon on disc. Which episodes appear on the disc isn’t listed (other than the titular Witch’s Stew), but the “volume one” suggests there will be more. I’ll see if I can’t find out.
Also, for those of you in the Netherlands (look it up, you monkeys) Ernie Hudson will be appearing at the Screen Heroes Con, Sept. 24th and 25th, in Utrecht. Any Euro-ghostheads attending, take pictures! We wanna see more GB fans from across the pond.
Ik ben niet bang van geesten!

— IGN reviews DVD two pack
IGN has posted a look at the new DVD gift set, which compares the previous DVD releases to the DVDs included in the set. It’s a good look at the differences between the two. They also point out a couple of errors;
“Editor’s Note: Information on the back of the slipcase indicates that Ghostbusters is presented in a full-frame format; this is incorrect – both movies are presented in their original widescreen format. Also, some reference was made on internet sites suggesting that the films were remastered since the previous release; this is also incorrect.”
I was one of those sites suggesting that the set was remastered – this was because Sony was advertising that it was. Since IGN never said why they say it’s not true, I don’t know what to tell you. Hooray for the vagaries of internet journalism!
Also, they say there’s no obvious context as to why the two animated RGB episodes are included, but anybody who watches them should be able to pick it out pretty easily; each one blatantly ties into either the first or second film. Ta-da!

— Boring job = cool stuff
Here’s the deal – you remember those merchandise logo’s that used to run along the right hand side of the main page? Well, all those pages and their news items still need to be translated over to the new site set-up. I’ve done one and that’s when I realized it was a giant pain in the butt. I can do it, but my time is short.
Rather than leave the items in limbo, I’d rather get them in as fast as possible and in order to do that, I’d like to enlist some help.
I need two people who are willing to spend an hour going through a boring text file, striping out old HTML tags, removing annoying line returns, and turning dates from one format into another. Boring, right? But not all that hard. Anyone handy with a text editor can do it pretty quickly.
What would you get in return, you ask? Well, for those who help, I’ll send them a keen Bill Murray t-shirt and some of the new Protoncharging.com stickers.
Interested? Email me!
[UPDATE] I’ve ensared one poor soul. Who else will risk their sanity for a shirt and stickers!?
— So, what's in it for me, you ask?

[UPDATE] I’ve got more help than I think I can use. I’ll email everyone who responded shortly. Thanks for offering to help. I’ll do it by first come first serve and just so you don’t think you missed out, I found a few extra shirts, so the job just got easier and the chances for swag got better.
As mentioned a few days back I’m looking for a text monkey to take old PC entries, clean them up and reformat a date, send them back, and get swag. What swag? Well, I offered (and I’m still offering) a Bill Murray t-shirt and a handful of the new PC stickers (see above – the image on the shirt is smaller than represented and the stickers are sticker sized. They’re not actually that big compared to a t-shirt.)
I had someone offer and then he went away (dude, if you’re still interested, let me know), but the rest of you are either busy or fear work – I fear work. That job’s taken. If we all fear work, this isn’t going to pan out.
So, want a shirt and stickers? It’s stupidly easy stuff, it will just take an hour of your life (unless you suck at using Word.)
Email me if you’re interested in helping me out (seriously, I would really appreciate it – it’ll speed things up considerably, and you won’t even have to do the most boring part. I still have to do that.)
Read on for an example of what’s involved;

— Child's Play
Over the last handful of years, the creators of Penny Arcade have run their Child’s Play charity to buy toys for kids in hospital. This year the organization has teamed with Amazon.com and over a dozen children’s hospitals in Canada, the US, and the UK.
The charity was started as a way to show that people who play video games (and by broad extention, anyone who enjoys movies, games, and pop culture in general) aren’t violent maniacs or shiftless losers (well, not all of us. narf!)
You don’t have to give a lot – sometimes it’s as simple as buy a ten buck kids book. So please consider it, won’t you?
For more information, check out their website, or click on the banner at the side of the page.
— Bill Murray Classic Comedy Collection DVD

Or as I like to think of it, The Bill Murray / Harold Ramis Classic Comedy Collection DVD.
Sony Entertainment has announced that they will be releasing a 3 disc set of Bill Murray comedies this January 17th (too bad it missed this Christmas season.) The collection will contain Stripes, Ghostbusters, and Groundhog Day (all of which also star, were written, or directed by Harold Ramis) and appear to be whatever recent DVD version has the most stuff packed into them – the Stripes DVD, for example, is listed as being the Extended Cut version that came out earlier this year.
Nothing new, but a nice set if you don’t already own these classic comedies or are looking to buy them for someone. The suggested retail price is $24.95, though Amazon is listing it for $18.71 (not a bad deal, when you consider the Stripes DVD alone lists for $14 bucks.)

— Profiles in History auctions off GB2 proton pack
If you’ve got $8,000 and you want a piece of Ghostbusters history, you might want to check out this eBay auction. Profiles In History, which have previously sold off one of Egon’s jumpsuits, is offering a proton pack prop used in Ghostbusters 2. The pack is suspected to be a stunt pack, a lighter pack, intended for use in quick stunt sequences or at a distance – it does have some working lights however.

— Sony announces non-season RGB DVDs
Why belabour the point when I can just quote TVShowsOnDVD.com;
Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced plans to release The Real Ghostbusters on DVD February 28.
Unfortunately they’re releasing this in a configuration that fans of the show aren’t interested in; volumes with random episodes.
Volume 1:
Catch Me If You CanCreatures of the Night contains “Night Game,” “Lost and Foundry,” “Bird of Kildarby” and “Killerwatt.”Volume 2:
Booware of EvilSpooky Spirits contains “Revenge of Murray and the Mantis,” “Ghostbuster of the Year,” “Drool, the Dog Faced Goblin” and “Mr. Sandman, Dream Me a Dream.”Volume 3: Slimefighters contains “Adventures in Slime and Space,” “They Call Me Mister Slimer,” “Victor the Happy Ghost” and “Slimer, Come Home.”
Each disc runs 89 minutes, and carries a suggested retail price of $9.95.
Currently there is no art work available.
As fans we now find ourselves in an odd spot – do we buy the DVDs and hope that the sales will convince Sony to release season sets or do we NOT buy the DVDs and hope that the sales will convince Sony to release the season sets. Philosophically, I’m inclined to the latter, but as an economic realist, I’m afraid only the former will likely work.
Of the 12 episodes being released, 6 were previously availabe in official VHS releases and one was recently released in the UK on DVD. The first episode, Knock Knock Ghost R Us is not included, which is a tragic oversight for fans.
[update] I was typing quickly this morning and in the rush to look up the video releases while typing, put Knock Knock down as the first episode (it was the first VHS release.) Thanks to Tracy for pointing it out – you posted your comment in the second copy of a double post, so I’m afraid your comment is lost.
[UPDATE] As David posted in the comments section, Amazon is offering the DVDs for $6.99.
credit | Gord for the warning last week, plus Dr. J and Orlando for bringing it to my attention! Paul at Spook Central got the final, official disc titles.
— RGB DVD covers posted… everywhere.
In the wake of Sony’s announcement that they are releasing three RGB DVDs in the new year, cover art for those discs has been apparently released – I would not catagorize them as final art, as you’ll note two of the volumes have different names than what the press release gave.

Go to TVShowsOnDVD.com for the larger versions and stay tuned to see if they change any as we head towards thier release.

— Tapes for sale… RGB episodes for free
Paul Rudoff of Spook Central has a space problem and a clever way to solve it – in short, he’s looking to get rid of some VHS tapes that are cluttering up the house. If you’re interested in helping him with his problem, and buy a box of those tapes, as a bonus, he’ll tape some RGB episodes onto them. Or something other than RGB (the complete run of Hulk Hogan’s Rock N Wrestling has caught my eye.)
Better you should get all the details from his site, but the man has a serious collection of stuff – It could be a great deal for someone looking to fill out their collection of episodes.
2006 (19 entries)
— Dr J selling some choice GB collectibles
Without a doubt, the recent king of Ghostbusters collectibles has been Greg Justis – in the last few years he’s gathered some cool shh…aving cream (sorry, forgot this was a PG site for a moment.)
But now he’s moving and at times like that, you clean house a bit. Which means he’s keeping all the INSANELY cool stuff, but selling off some of his merely extremely cool stuff. Trust me, these are some keen items. Have a look. Greg’s good people and easy to work with.
— DVDs to be repackaged
March 14th, Sony Home Entertainment will be releasing “repackaged” editions of Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters 2 on DVD. As far as anyone can tell, this is code for “we’ll make more money that way.”
Each movie will be sold for a SRP of $14.94. This is five cents cheaper than the double pack is currently available for.
So, if you want my advice, get the double pack now – it doesn’t look like it or the booklet it comes with will be available for much longer.

— GB soundtrack re-issued.. again. This time with bonus tracks
Two years after BMG released a bargain edition of the movie soundtrack, Arista records (who originally relased the soundtrack in the 80s) is set to release a new edition February 28th.
The disc is billed as being remastered, but that’s such a vague term it’s tough to say what that means. What is intersting is that the new CD will featuer a 6 minute version of the Ray Parker Jr. theme and Disco Inferno by The Trammps (the one song conspicuously missing on the original release.) The disc has a SRP of $14.00 $11.98US.

— Agoraphobic Cowboy hits real-world stores

After months of online-only sales, Rick Moranis’ new album, The Agoraphobic Cowboy, is now available in finer stores everywhere (ironically, I’m linking to Amazon.)
[UPDATE] – iTunes is featuring a celebrity playlist today, by Rick himself. If you have iTunes, you can go read it yourself (and if you’re so inclined, buy the entire list of songs for $20.) If you don’t have iTunes, read on;
My interview with Rick about the album and other things is coming soon.
Rick Moranis’ Playlist
Ok,I admit this list maybe a little ’70s-centric, but I spent from 1970 to 1976 working in radio in Toronto, as a producer and DJ at AM and FM stations that played classical, middle-of-the-road, rock and country. I never got over some of that music and still I like hearing it today. And there are a few other things here too, including some stuff my kids have played for me and a few things I listen to every once in a while.
Misty – Ray Stevens: “I loved Ray Stevens’ musicality and his great sense of humour Country hits would sometimes crossover to the Top 40 AM radio in the ’60s. And amidst the British Invasion, Motown and California surf music, you’d hear songs from artists like Roger Miller, Johnny Cash and Ray Stevens. Then, in 1974, Ray did something very cool; he covered the Errol Garner / Johnny Burke classic ‘Misty’. It was the first time I heard a bluegrass treatment of a standard. Fantastic”
Wonderful Wonderful – Johnny Mathis: “One of the great all-time crooners and among my earliest memories of music. When I was a kid in the suburbs of Toronto, the kitchen radio was always tuned to CFRB. (Canada’s First Radio Broadcast.) This was one of the songs they played a lot. It’s been stuck in my head since”
Goodbye Stranger – Supertramp: “ln 1982, my partner Dave Thomas and I scored a gold record for the McKenzie Brothers Great White North album. So we both bought new cars, eh. I traded in my 1976 burgundy Camaro 350i4-barrel carb, with my Breakfast in America tape stuck in the 8-track. I bought a 1982 white BMW733. And a new cassette of the album.”
Bright Size Life – Pat Metheny: “In 1976, I was almost fired from CHUM-FM for playing this song too much. Management wanted me to stick to the high-rotation hits. The listeners, however, never complained. This is from his first album.”
My Rival – Steely Dan: “One of my favorite pieces from the greatestpra ctitionersto ever enter a recording studio. If Bach had 24 tracks and had heard Sonny Rollins.”
Contusion – : “An instrumental from Songs in the Key of Life that I also almost got fired for playing too much in the 70’s. Stevie Wonder is revered for his vocal melodies but listen to the musicianship on this piece. Very ’70s and powerful and great.”
I’ve Been Everywhere – Hank Snow: “Hank asked the Australian folkie Geoff Mack to write a North American version of his hit touring song. Hank turned it into a classic. Hank Snow was Canadian; there’s a museum devoted to him in Nova Scotia, his birthplace.”
I’ve Been Everywhere – Johnny Cash: “The Man in Black covered it on one of his last albums. Powerful, just like all Johnny Cash music.”
You Belong to Me – Carley Simon: “A double-header from one of my favorite composers, Michael McDonald. This version by Carly is gorgeous, the petfect blend of Mike’s cool and Carly’s warmth.”
You’re Made That Way – The Doobie Brothers: “A rarely played piece of Michael’s writing, jazzy and soulful. Also, highly overplayed on my CHUM-FM afternoon shift in 1976.”
Pavane by Gabriel Faure – Zenaida: “Back-to-back…
Pavane Pour Une Infante Defunte – Andre Laplante: “…gorgeous pieces of French romantic orchestral classics.”
A Trick of the Tail – Genesis: “Before Phil Collins and Peter Gabriel went separate directions, the composition was at its peak. Where British rock went after the Beaties, thanks to Sir George Martin.”
The Nightfly – Donald Fagen: “If Picasso played the piano.”
King Harvest (Has Surely Come) – The Band: “My favourite piece of Band.”
Heroes and Villains – The Beach Boys: “The Van Dyke Parks infusion. A circus of sound.”
Flowers On the Wall – The Statler Brothers: “Another ’60s crossover country hit. The first banjo I heard on AM radio.”
Karn Evil 9: First Impression, Pt.1 – Emerson, Lake, and Palmer: “I first saw Keith Emerson play with his band The Nice at the Masonic Temple venue in downtown Toronto in 1968. I still haven’t quite recovered. A couple of years ago, I insisted that my son download this for his iPod. His math grades improved as a result.”
Don’t Take Me Alive – Steely Dan: “Larry Carlton graces the great.”
Save the Life of My Child – Simon & Garfunkel: “My sister and I wore out two ‘Bookends’ LP’s. No list can be complete…”
— Speaking of DVDs…
Those of you who were hoping the upcoming repackaged editions of the Ghostbusters movies (ie, they can be bought seperately) wouldn’t be of the green slime cover, Sony has updated their home entertainment page, and the green slime covers appear to be the order of the day.
— Vote now, vote often – Ghostbusters Clix
Wiz Kids Games, makers of HeroClix, Mech Warrior Clix, and a host of other collectible figure and card games, is going to make a new game using horror figures, and they want you to vote on what you’d like to see.
There’s Army of Darkness – that’d be cool. Oh, and the original Universal Monsters. AND GHOSTBUSTERS!
Why are you still here? Go vote. Then tell your friends to vote.
You may need to sign up on the Wiz Kids forum to vote – if you’re not into Clix, then I’m reluctant to tell you to sign up, just to vote. It’d be nice to win, but not at the cost of looking like vote spammers.
It’s all good apparently – a number of people who don’t have accounts were able to post without signing up.

— RGB DVD titles finalized
Paul at Spook Central got in touch with Sony, who straightened out the confusion over the DVD titles. I’ve updated the PC article on the DVDs to reflect the change.
Paul also snagged a copy of a print ad for the DVDs – check it out.
[UPDATE] Ryan LeClair points out that the cover for volume three has had its background changed and the sell sheet promises a “bonus episode” – but doesn’t say what the bonus episodes are. They might already have been listed in the inital press release, just not as bonuses. I also noticed that Lorenzo Music is listed as “famed cartoonist.”
— Soundtrack re-release cover and Canadian date
Well, with only a handful of days left before Arista Records re-releases the Ghostbusters soundtrack (with two additional tracks), Amazon has finally posted a cover image and it’s… the original!
On the downside, after having at look at the Canadian Amazon site, it appears that the CD won’t be available for another week and a handful of days – March 7th to be exact.
— RGB DVDs released – and they're cheap!

Well, they’re finally out, and the best that can be said is that they’re cheap to buy ($9,99CDN at HMV – Best Buy didn’t get its order.)
As expected, the discs are intended to be low-price point for parents to pick up for the rec room collection of DVDs the kids can trash (the Quick Start sticker on the cover is a dead give-away.) Viewers are give a chance to see the trailers for Zathura, Stuart Little 3 (all computer animated), and Open Season (which is good for a giggle.)
Sadly, being bargain basement discs, the quality of the episodes is, well, VHS. Possibly they were mastered FROM someone’s old VHS tape, I dunno (That’s a little over the top, but Ghostbusters of the year was pretty fuzzy – I want to watch it again, just to see if my first impressions are right.) I haven’t listened to the sound enough to comment yet. I watched a couple last night and it’s not as bad as I thought and I had an independant expert has a look and they think it’s pretty good too – not perfect, but not bad.
If you found copies at a good price somewhere or just have something to say (OTHER than how they should put out a full series set), go for it.
— GB Soundtrack for your iPod
As copies slowly surface here and there, fans debate whether or not they’ll buy a soundtrack they alrady have just to get two songs not available on the previous edition of the soundtrack. Well, part of that problem can be solved easy.
iTunes is offering the soundtrack for the usual $9.99, or most of the individual tracks for 99 cents. I say most because Disco Inferno by The Trampps is only available with the album (iTunes typically reserves a more sought after song for album purchases only.) But if you want the 12″ cut of the theme song, you can buy that for a buck (which is handy for those of you with the vinyl or picture records, but want a playing copy.)

— Bernstein soundtrack officially released on CD

For those of you who have spent years looking for the Elmer Bernstein Ghostbusters soundtrack or have for those of you that found the bootleg of average quality, it appears that Varèse Sarabande, purveyors of rare soundtracks, is releasing a Sony sanctioned version of the soundtrack.
For $19.99US, plus $6.50 shipping (North America – abroad costs more) you can get your hands on one CD of 39 tracks – the track breakdown covers the same material as the bootleg, if not more, but it is arranged into much shorter tracks, including three “bonus” tracks.
You’d better get one now however, as the run is currently limited to 3000. Ghostbuster fans and soundtrack collectors alike will be looking to get their hands on this one. The website says they will start shipping the discs March 16th.
It’s interesting, Varèse Sarabande carries a number of hard to find soundtracks by Bernstein, including Stripes and Spacehunter!
credit | Phantomfriar2002
[UPDATE] The track listing looks similar to an alternate bootleg (Spook Central lists it at the bottom) – both have 36 tracks. This edition however has the three bonus tracks. The company is a well regarded company, and Ghostbusters, along with their other Club releases, has been reported as official on a number of soundtrack websites.
There was a small, promotional soundtrack released years ago, upon which many of the bootlegs out there are based – it’s very possible that Varèse Sarabande is releasing that same promotional edition, along with the three bonus tracks (one of which is an alternate version of one of the compositions.)
[UPDATE] Interesting fact; Varèse Sarabande is producing 3000 of the Ghostbuster soundtrack – the other three soundtracks are only seeing half as many. So, clearly they expect the CD to be very popular. With luck, perhaps it will spur a second edition. Or maybe a small run of the second movie’s score by Randy Edleman – sure, he’s no Elmer Bernstein, But I still liked it.
— GB 1&2 repackaged DVDs out today
This is a minor note – the “repackaged” DVDs are out today. The two DVD gift-set was never intended to be available forever – instead Sony is breaking them up into individual films. Same green goo cover, normal DVD case, one for Ghostbusters and one for Ghostbusters 2.
The gift-sets are still fairly available, so if you haven’t picked it up, you might want to. And if you ever thought about buying it for someone else, the gift-sets are the better deal, so buy them while you still can.
— GB film score CD almost gone!
Ryan LeClair emailed me just now – apparently when he and his father went to order their copy of the Elmer Bernstein Ghostbusters film score, they were told by Varse Sarabande customer service that they were down to ten copies remaining. So if you didn’t get one already, let’s hope they decide to do a second run.

— GB score CD – 2500+ gone. Get yours now.
The Varese Sarabande website is still offering the Ghostbusters score, by Elmer Bernstein, though the site says that out of 3000 produced, less than 500 remain. If you haven’t grabbed one yet, time is running short.
UPDATE – All CDs are completely sold out. Hope you got yours in time.
— Replica Ecto-1 plates
I had a good laugh at the beginning of X-men 3, when Xaviers car rolls up and has an old-style New York plate. Ah, the 80s.
Travis Bell has spent a lot of blood, sweat, and tears producing 100 replica Ecto-1 plates, and he’s offering some of them for sale – got a replica car and need a good plate? Live some place where your front plates don’t have to mirror your back plates? Want one to put on your wall? Well, here’s your chance – I haven’t seen replica Ecto-1 plates since Startifacts was offering them, way back when, so consider this opportunity knocking.
— Can you say, "custom figs"?

As mentioned previously, WizKids Games was looking into the possibility of adding Ghostbusters to their upcoming Horror Clix table-top miniatures game – Alien Versus Predator ultimately won the vote, but why waste a perfectly good idea (not to mention figure sculpts?)
An ad poster for Horror Clix hit stores this week and featured are three “Ghost Finder” figures. While some pants have been painted into blue jeans and some random, science-looking equipment added, they are clearly proto-Ghostbusters. Notice the webgear belt and shoulder straps (for backpacks that don’t appear to exist – it’s hard to tell in the promo photo.)
Personally, I’ll be making a few modifications to my figs (for those interested, the Horror Clix set uses the same style stats as the Hero Clix set, meaning Hellboy and the Ghostbusters can battle undead zombies and Morbius.) The game debuts in July and will hit stores in August.
Big thanks to Ethan at Elfsar Comics for pointing the figs out to me.
— GB producer selling limited Terror Dog prints

Michael C. Gross, producer on both Ghostbusters films, is selling some art. Of particular interest to Ghostbuster fans is his limit edition, signed print of a stylized terror dog. For those not in the know, Gross is an accomplished artist, having been involved in the art world even longer than in film.
It’s a really nice image (first one on the link page), with the terror dog hunched on the rooftop alter, like a gargoyle, and poor Dana trapped within. Anybody can own a set of action figures, but art is something special. It would certainly make a nice gift for the discerning ghosthead in your life.
— Engine 23

I was in LA over the weekend, and on a whim, went looking for the firehall used for interior shooting on Ghostbusters one and two – all the trips I’ve made to LA, and I never once had a chance to see the firehall.
Located at 255 E. 5th street (at Maple), it sits in the middle of the toy district – the area is filled with toy companies, wholesalers, and stores. And the area is also filled with a lot of street citizens – all in all, a strange vibe area, but you can see why it’s such a popular shooting location in LA. You can also tell, by the people in front, just how much wider and larger, overall, the building is compared to its New York cousin. Movie magic kids – small building on the outside, twice as big on the inside.
— Some swag is just for me.
Not all the swag for Proton Charging’s tenth anniversary is available to the masses – some of it is just for me.

— I got mine – C.I.Boys

If you’ll recall back, we reported on a series of these strange little vinyl figures from Hong Kong that were modeled after characters from the 80s, including a Mr. Stay-Puft. Well, Voltage, a store here in Vancouver, had just gotten a box in and I managed to snag on after only three blind boxes, one of which also included a Tron figure, which is rare compared to the others. So, yay me! Anyone looking to buy one should look around for the nearest store carrying merch from Kid Robot (or just find a Kid Robot store.)
— EGB commercial
In transfering the Leo Zahn interview from the old system to the new system (he directed an Extreme Ghostbusters toy commercial) I discovered it needed some cleaning up – old pictures no longer existed, etc. And in the process, I found this;
It was so keen, I thought I’d dig it up for the front page. Enjoy!

— Ecto-1 replica for sale… again.
In 2003, a George Barris Ecto-1 replica from a Florida auto museum was sold to the Historic Auto Museum in Roscoe, IL. And now, another Ecto-1, attributed to George Barris, is for sale by the Volo Auto Museum, slightly to the East of Roscoe, in Volo, IL. At this time, it doesn’t appear that they’re the same car, but it seems a strange coincidence.
The Roscoe vehicle was a sad case, one part Ecto-1, one part Ecto-1a, and various strange design choices. Plus, the museum listed it as a 1960 Cadillac. The Volo vehicle is very close to the movie, and lists it as a 1959 body. The only thing they seem to have in common is that they’re both in Illinois and they were both apparently made by George Barris. If any of the Ecto-experts out there can help clarify, please contact me.
The listing doesn’t outright call the vehicle a screen-used vehicle, but neither does it call it a replica, choosing instead to comment on it’s previous life as a vehicle used in In The Heat of the Night. It’s not a bad looking vehicle if you’ve got the dough… a lot of dough. If it’s the same vehicle, it sold in 2003 for $55,000, but is listed now for nearly $150,000.
Thanks to Andy for the heads-up.
[UPDATE Jan. 29th]
There is some discussion at GBProps (and if any group would know, it would be some of those guys) that this car is a private replica that Barris is taking credit for. Classy. If you’re going to make an ecto replica, make sure to weld some initials onto the chassis or something. Thanks Nick.
— The bathtub tried to eat Oscar!
And now the bathtub can try to eat you too! Well, no, but a UK company is selling a coloured powder that will absorb a massive amount of water, turning a bathtub into a lot of slime. When playing in slime gets boring, a simple packet of solvent dissolves the goopy mess.
One would think the addition of ice-cubes would make the tub the worlds greatest house-party bottle cooler at Halloween (provided you can cope with slime getting tracked everywhere – PC takes no responsibility for stained carpet. I’m just saying. Oh wait, the website says it won’t stain and the dissolver is table salt.)
The hilariously named Gelli-Baff comes in what I like to call Ghostbusters Green, Almost Ghostbusters 2 Red, Test Run Blue, and Just One More Test Run Orange. You can get all four, for approximately $40US, plus shipping.
— Theatrical poster re-print
The latest issue of Previews catalogue, by Diamond Distributors, is offering a “Ghostbusters movie art poster”, which as it happens, turns out to be a reprint of the original theatrical poster for Ghostbusters. Check it out here, or at your local comic shop. The poster’s SRP is $7.25US.
Thanks to GozerJr for spotting this.
The company producing the poster is Pyramid Posters in the UK – they also have a variety of Ghostbusters mini-posters, postcards, stickers, and buttons available as well at their website. Thanks Seb for the info.
— Hey, what's that?
Speaking of Taylor (see below) pick up what he’s puttin’ down – meaning, check out this cool ass poster he’s holding up for me. What is it, you may ask. I hope to have more for you soon. Please stand by.

— Ecto-1 lithographs available to buy
88mph has announced a lithograph print of Alvaro Pardo Sanchez’s black and white rendering of the Ecto-1. As seen previously, PC made it a point to see one in person – they print is exceptionally nice, and comes in a protective hard plastic sleeve for shipping. The item as bears the official seal of approval from Columbia-Tristar and General Motors, who in recent years have gotten sticky about the use of the likenesses of their cars, old and new.
According to the 88mph website, the print is $19.95US, plus shipping, which took about a week in my experience.
— GB Props Archive re-launches
PC has been featuring a link to a new message board for awhile, but is super happy to report that after a lot of hard work over several months, AJ Quick has launched the newly revamped gbprops.com, instantly turning it into one of the best GB sites going.
Maintaining its original focus of supplying prop builders with all the information they could ever want about replicating packs, traps, and goggles, GB Props has expanding to include a Wiki, a store (complete with all the hard to find widgets and whatsits that are needed to make a perfect prop replica), a message board (comprised of both prop builders and general fans), and a front page featuring news headlines and links from your’s truly.
— Custom Johnny Lightning cars

Apparently there’s a community of people who like to customize their Johnny Lightning cars, and Jason sent me some pics of his custom Ectos, including the beater version that Ray first buys (“Fourteen hundred.”), the car from the first film, and his tweaks to make the car from the second film (which is what the original toy car is supposed to be) more to his liking.
Ecto : The Beginning, is still being worked on.

— Movie's Greatest Cars & Stephen K. Who?
I’m sorry, who is Stephen K. Amos? And why, as a comedy writer, does he think Ghostbusters is “appalingly dull”? In fact, the presenter is pretty catty about it too. Still, it’s nice to see a clip from the Greatest Movie Cars show, which aired over a year ago – and it’s nice to see that Sony is apparently working to preserve the car.
Speaking of the Ecto-mobile, back in 1989, some lucky Coke drinker won a replica. Who won is still a bit of a mystery, but the TV ad promoting the contest is kind of cool to see. Thanks to GozerJr for spotting that one.

— "You can't park that here!"

From Profiles In History’s latest auction, a prop sign from the New York firehall location.
403. Parking sign from Ghost Busters. (Columbia, 1984) White with red letters aluminum parking sign printed, “RESERVED FOR GHOST BUSTERS, ALL OTHERS WILL BE TOWED AWAY”. From the first Ghost Busters film. Most likely used for the Ghostbusters’ vehicle, the ECTO-1. $400 – $600
Thanks to PKESurge for the heads-up. The auction is by registration only, but it may not be too late yet.
— Converting a GI Joe to a GB = GB Joe?

Years ago – many many years ago – a fella by the name of Arron Mack arrived on the scene, showing off his custom Ghostbuster 12″ figure. The tiny props and costume he made, not to mention the Ray style head, were amazing. Over time, we lost track of him, but now, exactly seven years and one month since we first posted about his figure, Mack is back. He has posted pictures of his kit and better yet, is looking to see who might be interested in buying additional kits.
And one interested should go let him know and even if you’re not, you should see the pictures he posted.
[update] Score! I found the old article and the links still work. Here are the original photos he posted (including the two posted at GB.net.) And two pictures of Pooh Bear. That’s a bonus, let’s say.
— Bustin' on your cell phone feels… crappy.
IGN Wireless reviewed the Ghostbusters cell phone game we mentioned way back when. I missed it, but Beezer spotted it, and sent along the link. Their verdict? 5.2. Out of 10. Ouch. But then, cell phone gaming isn’t that strong to begin with.
— GB Props reference update
GBProps.com has re-opened its extensive reference guides. Slowly but surely, this is turning into one of my favorite GB sites. Check it out.
— Restoring original Slimer mold

Production Designer Matt has a Flickr photoset of an original Slimer production mold, which he is having restored – hopefully he’ll post more during the restoration process. He also has a great set on his replica proton pack.
— Return of the DIY dolls
Anybody remember Jade and her homemade wooden dolls? I do, only because the post I made about her is so old, the image that used to accompany it is long, long gone, as were the original links.
How awesome it is to stumble upon her Deviant Art account, with pictures of her original Egon and a Garrett she made later. No pics of Ray, Peter, and Winston, but lots of other dolls she’s made. Perhaps she’ll post them soon.
— "I like that shirt, friend!" Part 2
Fright-Rags, makers of hardcore horror t-shirts, have announced they will be releasing a new shirt at the end of June. Check this out;

Sweeeeeet. I love that it pays homage to the “horror” part of our favorite horror-comedy. I’ll mention it again when the shirts go on sale.
— Mignola-style Egon

I very nearly forgot about this – Jason Bischoff dropped me an email to show me the results of a brainstorm he had. Namely, turning a Lobster Johnson action figure (from the Hellboy comic) into an Egon. The results are stark and gritty, not what one would expect in an Egon, but coooool nevertheless. Go here to check out the figure in great detail (plus have a gander at all his other excellent custom figures.) Next up, according to Jason… Slimer!
— Prop shop super sale!
AJ Quick sent out a note that the GB Props dot Com store is having a sale, PLUS there are new items. So, if you’ve ever said to yourself, “I want to make a prop proton pack replica” then now is your chance to get the same bits and bobs the original prop masters used for the film… cheap!
For a limited time the Ghostbusters Prop Archive is running a sale on 8
parts carried in the GB Props Shop. Resistors, Clippard Fittings, Belts &
Split Loom are on sale with some items being as much as 50% off! While you
are buying these items also check out the NEW parts we have for sale as
well. There are 5-6 new items in stock, with other items being restocked. This limited time sale will end in July. Get your parts for Halloween now,
as they might not be there in October!
— Fright Rags GB tee hits the market
Frightrags.com has just released their kickass Zuul t-shirt (mentioned here previously.) Get your’s now! Before they’re all gone and we all point and laugh at you.
— Prototype RGB monster figs for sale

If I was a bit more of a figure collector or had a bit more spare cash lying around, I’d certain think about picking these guys up – acquired from a Kenner employee, these four figures from the RGB Monster series are hand made resin prototypes. Given the figures had internal mechanisms (for jaw movement action, etc.) that had to be handmade, that’s a serious amount of craftmanship. You’ve got a couple more days to make a bit on ebay, for Dracula, Quasimodo, Wolfman, and Zombie.
— Profiles In History auctions off GB1 and GB2 concept art

It’s time again for a new auction by Profiles In History – this time they’ve gotten their hands on some concept art, previously owned by GB producer, Michael C. Gross. There is no good description of the GB art, but the lot description does include a note and image of the GB2 art;
941. storyboard art from GhostBusters i & ii. (Columbia, 1984 & 1989) Two pages of original artwork in pencil, measuring 8½ in. x 11 in. and dated Feb. 10, 1984 and Feb. 16, 1984, respectively, from Ghostbusters. Accompanied by a 16 in. x 13 in. artwork with the caption “Slimer flies out of the statue’s crown and swallows the camera”, from Ghostbusters II. Originally from the collection of producer Michael C. Gross. $300 – $500
— Mystery prop for sale.

This hardhat, sporting a Ghostbusters decal, has turned up on eBay. The seller says the item was given to them by an ex-Columbia employee, but even they aren’t sure what it was used for. The initial conclusion is that the item is set equipment, only, the item is apparently artificially distressed – this would suggest then that the item might have been a prop… only, no hard hats appear anyplace obvious in the first film (the second film has hard hats, but they don’t have any logos.)
There’s nothing obvious to suggest the seller’s story is false, but it’s hard to gauge the authenticity of the item (and it’s worth.) If you’re reading this before 11AM East coast time, you might still have time to jump into the final bidding.
— Busting makes me feel veddy good, eh wot?

Oh my. I will admit I get a lot of happy happy out of the Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson Stormtroopers, but this beats all – a Steampunk Ghostbuster. If I understand correctly from the Flickr photoset, one Josh Freeman (he’s the one in the middle) put in a lot of time and effort to make himself a clockwork proton pack and ghost trap (in addition to other items and one awesome outfit) before heading off to this year’s San Diego Comic Con.
Josh, we salute you. Hip hip hoorah!

— Murray owns Mini-Murray
Just to jump in the wayback-machine for a moment, remember that custom wish-list action figure of Bill Murray that appeared in ToyFare magazine? No? OK, read here first.
Right, now get a load of this – on the ToyFare messageboards, senior editor Justin Aclin talked a bit about the popular figure, explaining that most of the custom figures made by Andgor Toy are kept in the ToyFare archives, except for the Murray Ghostbuster 12 inch fig, which belongs to Murray himself.
At some point, someone who worked at Wizard had a kid who played on a sports team with Bill Murray’s kid, and we arranged for them to give it to Bill in the hopes that seeing it would convince him how cool it would be to allow toys to be made of his likeness. You can see how well that worked out.
Strange, but true. Thanks to Cliff Roswell for spotting this one.
— Get Ray on the Transformers DVD
I’m not a fan of online petitions – I don’t think they wield anywhere near the power or impact online fans think they do, but this one is just goofy enough that I’m intrigued. It’s a petition to get Frank “Ray” Welker added to the Transformers DVD as an alternate audio track to Hugh Weaving’s Megatron.
— One stop shopping for licensed GB costumes

Sexy Ghostbuster! And it’s pretty much what you’d expect. Khaki hotpants and bellybutton revealing top, one size too small. Plus, a ball cap and a little protonpack backpack that seems more like a purse with shoulder straps than anything. It’s nice that Ghostbusters has made enough of a comeback in popular culture that it’s now joined the sexy batgirl and sexy supergirl on the rack (no pun intended… or was it?)
This website (ghostbusterscostumes.com – no fooling) offers not only the sexy outfit, but the regular adult and children’s sized outfits too! Handy!
Thanks to Van and dozens of others of you (you know who you are) for the heads up. Never fear, the traditional How To Make A Cheap GB Costume article will return in time for Halloween.
— Buttons make me feel good pt. 2

Umpteen years back, I attended the Edmonton Fringe festival. Overall, a good trip, as I got to meet Bruce McCulloch, see a lot of awesome plays, and met a guy who travels the festival circuit, selling handmade character pins. Lots of Simpsons and Warner Brother Looney Toons. Having found a copy of the GB RPG at a used bookstore around the corner, I gave him one of the cards inside as a reference and he turned it into a 3D, sculpted pin of the GB logo – the ghost was even made out of glow-in-the-dark Fimo. I loved it too death, literally – after a few years it just got beat to heck, and now lives in a box somewhere.
This year, friends that were with me the first time, attended the festival again and got the same guy to make me a new one as well as one based on my website logo (a variation on the original.) How awesome is that?
I heard from other friends that over the years they’d spotted the guy and he always had a few GB buttons, which I guess I can take credit for – your welcome, mystery button dude. If anybody knows who he is, tell him to get in touch with me, I’m sure he could find a few customers here at proton charging.
— Hallmark sells Ghostbusters card.

Sort of.
You may have seen their TV ad wherein Chewbacca wishes someone a happy birthday. I did, and I immeadiately went looking to see what other cards featured songs from movies. And was disappointed that there were so few, and definitely no Ghostbusters – I should have known however that Hallmark was holding back until the appropriate season.
Anomaly recently spotted the above card in a CVS (a drugstore chain, I’m to understand), though I’m sure you can find it most anywhere that sells Hallmark cards (like, say, a Hallmark store.) And as the text suggests, the song the card plays is Ghostbusters! Online shoppers note that you can buy the card through the link – you can even have it personalized and sent to someone.
It would have been sweet if it actually had the logo or characters, but that would mean more money, and really, all Hallmark wants is the music. Still, pretty cool.
— Replica proton pack for sale, with a twist
You might remember I posted awhile back about Matt, who has an old Slimer production mold, as well as a sweet replica proton pack. We, he’s contacted me to say he has put his pack up for sale on eBay in order to help finance the restoration of the Slimer mold, which would require some careful international transporting (never a cheap undertaking.)
The eBay listing, which has an excellent synopsis of the pack’s features, is here. There are already two bids on the items, so I will be curious to see the final price. Bidding closes in three days.
— Spooktacular set-piece for sale

When this Terror Dog first appeared on eBay, there was a bit of confusion – the seller, who had gotten the item off of someone ten years earlier, said they had been told the Terror Dog statue was from the movie, but if you’ve seen the movie, you’ll know it’s not. A few people that were lucky enough to attend to Ghostbusters Spooktacular at Universal Studios theme park, thought it might have been part of the Paranormal Gift Shop, which in the hey-day of the Ghostbusters films, was packed with Ghostbusters loot to buy.
Then Troy at GBHQ posted a link to Bruce Miller’s Creature Effects, which had a picture of a similar dog. Sure enough, labeled under the photo – “Ghostbusters Gift Shop.”
So, mystery solved and with a few days left on the auction, though at $375, it might be a little high. The item looks excellent, but it’s certainly not from the movie, and may not even have been used at the gift shop (it may have been a back-up or a duplicate made from the same mold.) However, it is pretty sweet. The one on eBay appears to be a Vinz Clortho dog (horns long and up), while the photo on Bruce’s page is a Zuul dog (horns short and down.)
Nods to K6 Scorpion for spotting the auction to begin with and Troy and Dan of GBVA for settling the mystery.
— “I like that shirt, friend!” Part 3
Pretty sweet, eh?
You’re probably asking, “Hey, where’d you get it?” And I’ll tell you, from this guy. And you’ll ask, “Does he have more?” And I’ll tell you, I’m not sure – he made limited amount. So, in case he does, you might want to ask quickly and politely. The shirt quality is solid, btw. I’m going to wear this proudly for years.
[UPDATE] He does still have some. They are $25 to ship to the US/Canada – anybody international should check with him first, as costs may vary. You can either email him; mattitude39 (at) gmail.com or hit his website.
— Rare: Japanese Coca-Cola/Ghostbusters playing cards
After all these years, it’s not often I see a GB collectible I haven’t seen before – this one blew me away. Few GB collectibles attract that kind of bidding, resulting in that kind of price.
The cards are fairly unremarkable, featuring stylized (just not GB stylized) face cards, a standard marketing image of Mr. Stay-Puft as the Jokers, and the GB Logo on black as the backs of the cards. Handsome, but not terribly inspired.
Still, I shouldn’t be surprised – some of the most sought after GB collectibles are the ones that interest more than just Ghostheads. In this case, it’s a two-fer, as there are a lot of collectors of Coca-Cola memorabilia and of playing cards.
— Mignola-Ghostbusters
Way back when, Jason Bischoff unveiled his custom Egon figure, done in a very Mike “Hellboy” Mignola, Noir-ish style. Well, Jason’s kept on going and completed a Ray and a Slimer.
Click here to check out Ray
Click here to check out Slimer
I’m not sure what I like most about the Ray – the EGB style trap, which opens, is cool. But the Hellboy/Steampunk proton gauntlet is pretty sweet too.
— Target selling Ghostbusters t-shirts
If you’ve always wanted a Ghostbusters logo shirt to sport around town in, now is your chance – word has it that Target is selling a plain logo (no text) on grey shirt. They’re not listing it online, but a few people at the Ghostbusters Message boards have successfully picked theirs up instore. Cheers to Crossing the Streams for letting the world know.
— Another look at ILM GB2 props
Yahoo! employee and Flickr account holder jsd6, recently got to take a tour of the ILM campus. This included taking photos in the Hall of Props, which features the Vigo painting, and two chunks of animatronic Slimer.
— T-shirt round-up

After thinking about it, plus some excellent info and feedback from readers, it seems like a good look at everywhere you can get a Ghostbusters t-shirt is in order. After all, we’re all going to need a way to fly our freak flag between now and next October when the Ghostbusters video game comes out.
Glenzz teez – Makers of the always hilarious Ghost-Buster shirt have a new shirt that is an 8bit mash-up of Ghostbusters and… Pac Man?
Target – As mentioned previously, Targets everywhere are carrying a single line of logo, no-text shirts. The logo is a nice, fully outlined one (as in, the red “no” circle has a black border, inside and out) on grey, with deliberate, trendy, artificial aging. Ipdate – Word has it that Walmart is selling the same shirts similar shirts, only they have the text logo, not the ghost logo – thanks BK and Jacob.
Anchor Blue – If you live in the North West and South West USA (plus Georgia and Florida), you’re in the right neighbourhood for Blue Anchor, who also currently carry a GB shirt. Anybody that has a picture, please send it in – Jade sent in the tip, but it’d be cool to see one.
[UPDATE] Ron sent in a picture of the shirts for sale at Anchor Blue. While they’re my least favorite type (logo and text on black), they GLOW in the dark. Which is, simply, awesome. Thanks ron.
[UPDATE] K-Mart is selling a new Ghostbusters t-shirt as well. It reminds me a little of 60s rock festival posters. And best of all – $7. Thanks to Ectoman57 for the picture.
80s Tees – If you’re comfortable shopping online, this is probably THE place to go right now, with nearly a dozen different GB designs. I can’t say I’m a fan of all of them, but they do say the wearer is a ghosthead, loud and clear. I’m still puzzled by the “Classified Information – 1983” shirt.
Fright Tees – Rarely shown any love, the Terror Dogs now have a nice t-shirt, proclaiming “There is no Dana, only Zuul.” Be prepared for lots of positive attention, with an equal amount of explaining what it means.
Matt’s Stay-Puft – While 80s Tees do have a Stay-Puft t-shirt, I like this one better. And better yet, since it’s a limited run Matt mostly made for himself, plus a handful of others, you’re unlikely to bump into someone with the same thing. Which is always embarrassing.
Paul Frank – If you’re looking for a really unique, nay, fashionable and trendy (meaning, if you want to be a Ghostbusters fan, while remaining hip and ironic to the in-crowd), you might consider this Paul Frank t-shirt featuring his signature brand character, Julius Monkey, and co. These also go over big with girlfriends, who might not want to be a Ghostbusters fan, but appreciate all things ironic and/or hip. (See above photo)
Kerrang! – While the web is awash in places you can get shirts with the Ghostbusters logo, this one is notable for their retro (ie artificially aged) Ecto-1 t-shirt – plus they have logo hoodies and beanie/toques.
Cafe Press – While I’m not a fan of the quality of Cafe Press t-shirts (they are the lightest shirts I’ve ever seen, which means they are excellent summer shirts, and aren’t very durable), the quantity of fan generated designs is fantastic! Here are some particular favorites or mine, but you should browse anyhow – there are pages and pages of designs. Get em now before Sony cracks down!

Mr. Stay-Puft Costume
There are others – I know there are. But I’m having trouble finding them. Like, that cool one with Egon menacing a Pac-Man ghost, tearfully displaying pictures of his little ghost children.
That’s where you guys come in – if you know of a good place to by a cool Ghostbusters t-shirt, let us know! I only ask that you keep Ghostbusters logo t-shirts to a minimum – if there’s a twist (like they glow in the dark, or are on something other than a t-shirt, or make you fly) then share – otherwise, the classic, basic tee is pretty well covered.
[UPDATE] Took a little hunting, but I found those stray shirts I half-remembered, but couldn’t find online.
The first is Ghosts Have Families Too, wherein a very Egon character menaces a despondent Blinky. Not only is it available in a couple of colours, but you can get it on a hoodie and bookbag. So that’s cool.
I can personally vouch for the shirt. I got great service, and I’ve washed it many times and the design doesn’t come off and it still feels and looks brand new after having it for nearly a whole year.
-Protonstream
The second is this one – currently, I can only find an Ebay listing, which is really all I could find when I originally found it. It’s origins resist all attempts to be uncovered – hopefully someone out there may know of an actual store that carries it.
While on ebay, I found this Stay-Puft shirt – again, that overused, worn-out look, but still a nice shirt. In this one case, the aged-by-design style works, since it kind of helps ground the fictional brand in reality. As if they actually made Stay-Puft
t-shirts in the 80s.
I would caution people against buying on Ebay – In the case where the shirts are being sold by an Ebay store, it’s probably alright, but Ebay tends to be flooded with cheap shirts, often ink-jet printed iron-ons, using images lifted from the web. Booo. Better safe than sorry – have a close look at the pictures (clip-art examples of the shirt or just an image of the design, don’t bode well – look for pictures of the actual shirt.)
— Bump – t-shirts
I figured out a couple of those shirts I couldn’t find – I’ve updated the t-shirt feature accordingly. Still on the lookout for more, however!
— Profiles in History: Terror Dog Claw for sale
One of the more unique, but somewhat boring Ghostbusters items PiH has ever auctioned off has to be this foam chunk of Terror Dog, presumably one of the wee little piggies that crumbled off as the dogs first got loose (as suggested by the screenshot they include.)
More details on the auction (which includes some sweet items from the Matrix, etc.) can be found here.
— Another Bump – t-shirts
Some good additions to the t-shirt post from last week – there’s a picture of the Anchor Blue shirt (it glows in the dark!) and there’s some feedback on the 80s tees (in short, “don’t”.)
— Yet Another Bump – t-shirts
Ectoman57 has spotted a new shirt at K-Mart – have a look at that t-shirt in the main t-shirt feature.
— "What did you Blu-Ray?"
HA! Awkward, but funny headline.
An ad in UK’s Empire magazine lists coming Blu-Ray discs from Sony, including Ghostbusters in “2008”. This is in Region 2 format, but I have it on good authority that there will be a Region 1 Blu-Ray disc for the release of the Ghostbusters video game in fall.
This is not official, but (shrug) why not? PC will continue to monitor the situation until there is official confirmation.
Thanks to Maul for spotting the ad.
— Ghostbusters submission at Threadless

Grim Santo sent a note pointing out that for the next six days, people can vote for a Ghostbusters themed t-shirt at Threadless. And if it wins, all we have to do is wait for a $10 sale, and go on a shopping spree. That’s if it wins – in order to vote, you have to sign up, but it’s mostly painless. Thanks Grim.
— Ghostbusters fan calendar coming in January
When you have as many fan made, photo quality, hero proton packs out there, it was only a matter of time before someone decided to actually take some nice pictures of them. And what better way than as part of a calendar (Just in time, as my 2007 one is about to run out.)
No word yet on details (price, shipping, is it raising money for something?) yet Full details aren’t known – it will be a monthly download – but AJ at GBFans has been dropping hints and we’ll likely get some more info soon.
2008 (75 entries)
— Sexy Ghostbuster costume a best-seller
An interview with a New York state retailer reveals on interesting fact about the Sexy Ghostbusters costume that appeared this past fall.
This past year, Kingston decided to experiment with selling Halloween costumes on his site and that was another success, especially the sexy Ghostbusters costume, said Brienne Downey, Kingston’s fiancée.
Crazy Dog sold 400 of the Ghostbusters costume, compared with 40 or 50 for each of the other costumes on the site.
That’s food for thought. As to why Kingston opted for the Ghostbusters costume, there’s a picture accompanying the article where we can see a Ghostbusters logo t-shirt in the background. Apparently it wasn’t a big leap for him to move from one piece of Ghostbusters merchandise to another.
— "…and free balloons for the kids."
You’ll know what I’m talking about when you see it.
— 80s Toy Expo in March
JP sent in a heads-up about the 80s Toy Expo in Burlington, Ontario this March. No telling how much Real Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters stuff will be on hand, but if there’s a likely place to find that Ecto-Glow set of the team, this would be the place.
— Dan Aykroyd tribute CD
A loose collection of indie bands in Pennsylvania have undertaken the task of creating an album entirely inspired by Dan Aykroyd. It’s completely tongue in cheek (one song is his entire filmography set to music) and not entirely tight (the cover of Paul McCartney’s Spies Like Us is spirited, if nothing else), but it’s all done with love and contains a surprise or two. Samples can be found here and the whole story behind the album can be found here.
Damn. Now I can’t get that song out of my head. “Ooo, ooo, whataya do? No one else can dance like you.”
— Last of the 88mph posters at Graham Crackers
Originally printed for the San Diego Comic Con to promote the Ghostbusters comic mini-series, the last of these posters (not signed) are for sale at Graham Cracker Comics. They are $11.99 plus shipping and handling – sadly, they are available in the US only. However, GC has the posters, so orders will be honored, no fear. Thanks to Miles for the heads up.
— More Mignola Ghostbusters

Jason keeps on truckin’ with his series of Mike “Hellboy” Mignola-style Ghostbusters, this time with a really bad-ass Winston! All the Winston snaps (and the pictures for the earlier figures – Slimer, Egon, and Ray) can be found here. That just leaves Peter, to complete the foursome (fivesome, if you want to count the spud.) Is that it then? Nope. Jason says he has a few more figures to add to the series up his sleeve.
— Custom Ghostbuster art-toys
We’ve seen custom action figures for Ghostbusters, but more and more of late we’re seeing Ghostbusters art-toys – all hand-made by GB fans everywhere. Many art toys, particularly the Kid Robot line, encourage fans to decorate them as they see fit – even going so far as to sell blanks.
Two notables are one by HawaiianGB, who’s Ray is spectacular in its detail (the picture here doesn’t so it justice), and the other by jogger164, who has made a super-cute Stay-Puft (to raise money for cancer apparently – good jarb, mate!)
PC continues to encourage fans making anything and everything GB related to send pictures! We love to see them!
— "I like that shirt, friend!" part 4

您是誰去叫? I probably got that wrong. Anyhow, I can think of easier tasks than chronicling the environmental challenges of a rapidly expanding People’s Republic of China, but Shane and John are going to give it a go – and judging by Shane’s t-shirt, in awesome style. You can watch their first Green Beat vidcast here.
— Official Ecto-1 appears in Minnesota!

A fairly well detailed Ecto-1 turned up on a parking lot in Richfield, MN. Why? Who does it belong to? Maybe it doesn’t matter More info on what’s up below – have a look at some close-up pics!
[UPDATE] Here are some more pics – it appears that this was a deliberate visit to Best Buy corporate headquaters. Which begs the question, was this something to do with some the upcoming sales of the game, moves (possibly on Blu-Ray), etc? Remember, stores had exclusive goodies for the sales of the Real Ghostbusters DVDs, and Best Buy often has DVDs with exclusive extra discs or mini-comics, etc.
[UPDATE] Well, it’s official – it’s the real Ecto-1, post-restoration. AJ at GBFans was there, and it was part of an official corporate promotional tour. So, it’s pretty safe to assume you’ll be able to buy the Ghostbusters game at your nearest Best Buy. ;p
[UPDATE] AJ has 277 (Yes, as in nearly three hundred) reference pictures of the car at GBFans, for those of you who would like to have a look.
[UPDATE] The world is awash in photos from this one appearance of the Ecto-1. Here’s another set. If this first surprise peek is any indication, restoring the cars (still no sign of the Ecto-1a yet) was money well spent on Sony’s part.
[UPDATE] AJ’s at GBFans.com, having seen the car, and presumably having talked to people in a position to know (either with Sony or Best Buy) is reporting that Sony and Vivendi are aiming to release the game and Blu-Ray disc at the same time;
Both are hoping to be released on October 21st, 2008.. while neither is set in stone, both are likely to be released on the same day. Vivendi is working on a Best Buy Exclusive promotion, as well as promotions with Target and GameStop.
Sony and Vivendi are also teaming up for a DVD Cash Promotion. All copies of the Vivendi Ghostbusters: The Video Game for XBox 360, PS2, & Wii will come with a DVD cash credit good towards the purchase of the Ghostbusters Collectors Edition DVD (while supplies last).
This is unofficial of course, but we’ve heard rumblings for awhile that this would be the case, and this goes a loooong way to supporting those rumblings.
— Haunted Housework tee!

It’s a dust-buster / ghostbuster reference. Get it? Actually, it’s kind of a cool t-shirt. I’m tempted to get one ($19.95USD is not a bad price either.)
— New RGB DVDs coming?
Gord over at TV Shows on DVD has posted a tip that part of this fall’s Ghostbusters blitz may include a multi-disc DVD set. No details yet, other than the set will NOT be released by Sony. This makes one wonder if this might be Rhino underwriting the release, after they included RGB in a public poll of what properties they should look into releasing.
Thanks to Ryan LeClair, Ryan NotLeClair, Lee, and Gord.
— "I have seen shite that will turn you white."
Weird! Making the headline vaguely PC also made it rhyme. Nice.
My favorite SoCal Ghostbusters crew put their heads together and their hands to work and put together a screen accurate proton pack. And you’re like, well, who hasn’t? And then I go, “well, did you make it for Ernie Hudson and did he come pick it up in person and hang out?” And then you go all quiet. And it’s an uncomfortable silence.
But it’s true, Bryan Fear and Co. the pack together and presented it to Winston himself. Pictures of the meeting are up on Proptopia, but you can only see them if you’re a member – if you’re not, and aren’t planning to become one, you can see them here at GBFans as well.
— UK RGB potato chip ad circa 1988
This excellent comic ad for Real Ghostbuster potato chips showed up on Flickr. The glow in the dark stickers (free inside each bag) have appeared on ebay from time to time, but the ships are nice to see as well.
— More UK ads – Shreddies and Shredded Wheat
This television ad from the UK pre-dates the Real Ghostbusters chips previously mentioned – this time Shreddies and Shredded Wheat were promoting the first movie, with extremely awesome transfers – you wet them, then applied them to mugs, plates, etc, where they would set. Not sure how they’d hold up to a dishwasher, but they’re still cool. Thanks to Matthew for digging this up.
Archived media references; playback may be unavailable.
— Time-Life to release Real Ghostbusters DVD set?
YAY! I got tired of sitting on this one!
TVShowsOnDVD.com hinted on a rumour that RGB might be coming to DVD, and that rumour is now filling in a bit more – while there has been no official announcement made, TVSoDVD’s source says Time-Life will be releasing a massive 26 disc set, complete with the Slimer and The Real Ghostbusters episodes. Beyond that, little is known, but take heart; Gord at TVSoDVD is hardcore in his reporting. If he didn’t think this had a good chance of being true, he wouldn’t report it – stay tuned!
— "A proton pack is not a toy"
The US Defense Intelligence Agency is looking into recent advances in proton gun technology (used primarily in cancer treatment) as a possible option for dealing with biological threats – unlike a bomb threat, which you can hit deal with by blowing up the package (or various similar pump-it-full-of-energy-make-go-boom options), even the smallest part of a biological package can cause damage. So, the plan is to pump it full of protons, which can be set to stop at a particular distance (where they then dump their energy, but the surrounding area remains intact.) All this thanks to the equipment getting smaller and smaller – sadly, as the science improves, it also makes the movie equipment that much more fictional, but that’s a small price to pay to zap a tumor or a bundle of nerve gas.
— NECA planning on GB game Slimer and beyond
AJ at GBFans.com spotted blog coverage of a Q&A; with Randy Falk and co. at NECA – during the questions it was revealed that they are apparently planning on a translucent Slimer in time for the release of the Ghostbusters video game (no word on whether this is a new sculpt or a translucent cast of their original Slimer figure) – they are also looking to the rights for the likeness rights to the Ghostbusters themselves, though they have been seeking these all along, and with the in-game Ghostbusters looking so much like the real actors, it hard to say if it will be any easier to obtain those rights (particularly from the particularly particular Bill Murray.) Also, nobody thought to ask if they’d be making figures based on other notables from the game (like any of the new monsters or the new incarnation of Gozer.)
Regardless, I guess we can scratch this off the “big announcement” list for the San Diego Comic Con (before it even made it on the list.) Stay tuned.
— Ecto-1 and Stay-Puft work the New York licensing Expo

Sony Consumer Products (not to be confused with Omni Consumer Products)
What does this mean to us? Well, more than likely it will lead to at least a few more cool Ghostbusters items to spend our money on in the coming year. Time will tell.
UPDATE: Here’s the list of what Sony says they are looking for at that show (bear in mind that this covers ALL of Sony’s IPs, not just ghostbusters, but it is an interesting guideline on possibilities.)
– Apparel/Fashion/Accessories
– Food/Beverages
– Promotions/Incentives
– Publishing
– Stationery/Paper Goods
– Toys/Games/Hobbies
— First look at NECA translucent Slimer

Big ups to Justin for sending in this link to gamervision.com, which has a picture of the translucent Slimer that was previously mentioned. As suspected, it’s a recast, not a new sculpt. But it’s something, likely intended to maintain their holding of the Ghostbusters license while they work towards getting approval for a series of figures based on the Ghostbusters team (and other figures from the upcoming video game.) Head over to gamervision.com for a larger look.
No word yet (and certainly no hint in the picture) of what accessories will come with the ugly little spud.
— Ghostbusters 1 and 2 Blu-Ray release date
Tyler sent in this list of Blu-Ray release dates from, appropriately, releaselists.com – while not official from Sony, it would be what you would call a secondary source – as it, it’s likely they got their numbers from somewhere official.
The list has a release date of October 21st for Ghostbusters 1 and a two-disc set with Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters 2. The ONLY way to get Ghostbusters 2 is in the two-disc set, apparently (which doesn’t bode well for there being any Ghostbusters 2 extras on the disc.)
— New Stay-Puft t-shirt
Electric Zombie have started selling this fantastic t-shirt – full shirt prints like that remind me of old rock tees. I’m not certain if they’re legit, so you might want to grab one now before Sony cracks down (as they did on Cafe Press.)
[UPDATE] $20 for the shirt, and only $7 shipping to Canada. OK, I’m rolling the dice and getting one.
[UPDATE] Link added now. Dur. Thanks Keith.
— Another new t-shirt
It never rains awesome, but it pours… awesome.
SciFiTees.com has a striking “Who Brought The Dog?” shirt – I’m not a black t-shirt kind of guy, but that’s a pretty good one, and a nice partner to the “There Is No Dana…” shirt from FrightRags.com. The shirts are also excellently priced, particularly for anyone out there than is tired of getting dinged for having to buy XXL and up – all sizes are under $20.
— Ghostbusters Kubricks at Tokyo Toy Fair

Big ups to RA24_4_Me for spotting this photo – MediCom (makers of Kubricks, particularly last year’s Back to the Future Kubrick figures) are showing off a line of Ghostbusters Kubricks and are they sweet. The Tokyo Toy Fair started yesterday and runs until Sunday, so we’ll keep digging.
[UPDATE]
Took a moment to blow up the pictures, so you can have a closer look – I omitted the GB logo, as it’s neat, but not the figure everyone wants to get a closer look at. Picture after the jump.

— Kubrick Ghostbusters – up close
Someone at the Tokyo Toy Fair posted their photo of the Ghostbusters Kubrick figures, so you can have a much close (and occasionally blurry) look at them – still no good photo of their packs mind you.
— 1/6th scale Proton Pack for sale
Nick-o-tron at GBFans.com has created a 1/6th scale proton pack resin kit (1/6th scale is about 12″ GI Joe scale, for those wondering) and is offering them for sale. The packs look fantastic when assembled, and start at approximately $70US plus shipping (the price drops when you buy more than one pack.)
— Custom Ghostbusters Xbox360 skin

Normally I’m leery on unlicensed Ghostbusters anything on ebay, but in this case, it is kind of cool. Someone in California is printing Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters 2 skins for the Xbox 360. They are printed on vinyl (not paper sticker) and look pretty sharp, as seen by these photos by QZEDDEMOORE, who bought one.
Buyer beware kids – but if you’ve ever wanted to customize your Xbox rig, short of someone making something official, this is an option. Or, maybe you want to try your own hand at it – the web has no lack of resources to help. Just remember to send PC a picture, yeah?
— Official prop replicas? Looks like a possibility.
This was mentioned in hushed tones behind the scenes a few years back, and presumed dead when nothing came of it – but that death sentence may have been a bit premature. Hints in the latest Master Replicas newsletter that they will soon be announcing some Ghostbusters replicas – unless anyone can think of another movie with the line “Back off man – I’m a scientist.” The question is then, what will they be making replicas of? Even money says a PKE meter, at least. But a proton pack, that seems like a long-shot (big!) – or they will cost a billion dollars. Early days yet – time will tell.
Thanks to Trendkiller at GBfans.com for spotting this one.
— Family Guy cards include one-of-a-kind Ghostbusters card
It’s a brilliant idea for selling cards – for every one box of card packs, Inkworks randomly inserted a hand-drawn card, created by one of 13 comics artists. The variety is amazing (click here for five pages of samples – and simple math will tip you off that there are hundreds more out there), but the prize catch is this Peter Griffin as Ghostbuster card by Chris Moreno (which sold for $150 on ebay – yowza!)
Thanks to Justis for the heads up – man, if only we had $150 lying around, eh?
[UPDATE] Good grief – A look at the first series, which also featured these sketch cards, had 6,340 of them, drawn by 14 artists. Some artists did over 500 cards each! And you can see them all here. Let’s hope they put all the series 2 cards up as well, so we can see if they did any more Ghostbuster cards (maybe not, but hey… maybe.)
— The Proton Charging-80s Tees Big Ass Contest

While the last contest here at PC was more for fun and to clear out our old stock of buttons (in order to make way for new ones) this one’s stepping things up a bit – 80sTees.com has graciously provided Proton Charging with a selection of shirts (and even a pair of boxer shorts) to give away, and I’ve gone one step further – I’ve done a little archive cleaning and dug up a whole lotta stuff I’m going to add to the pile. The end result is that I’m going to build a few prize packs, consisting of some portion of the following;
-80s Tees GB t-shirts
-80s Tees GB boxer shorts
-A copy of Ghostbusters: The Return (currently selling for $200US, used)
-A full set of Ghostbusters: Legion comics with the Dan Brereton covers
-A full set of the Ghostbusters: Legion Steve Kurth covers
-The Bulldog Collectibles alternate cover from Ghostbuster: Legion
-The Toyzz.com alternate cover from Ghostbusters: Legion
-A Hook and Ladder 8 station badge (featuring the No-Ghost)
-Issue #1 and 2 of The Real Ghostbusters
-The Ghostbusters Movie Storybook
-The Ghostbusters 2 Movie Storybook
-Various Starlog, MAD, Real Ghostbusters magzine
-A Ghostbusters 2 poster book
And that’s just the print archives combed – I haven’t gotten to the other boxes yet, so I’m hoping to be able to toss in some Ghostbusters 2 CDs and other GB/GB2/RGB knick-knacks. Not every prize pack will have each and every one of those items, but given all those items, each pack will still have lots in it.
How Can You Win?
Easy – Help more people find out about Proton Charging, so we can help them keep up to speed on all things Ghostbusters.
-Make a PC poster and take it to a con. Get it and your picture taken with someone famous. (5-10 points – photo evidence important.)
-Make some keen PC Live Journal, MSN, AIM icons and avatars, animated or still. Make a Proton Charging user bar for people to use in their messageboard signature. (1 point each, make as many as you want.)
-Tweet your follow-list on Twitter. (3 points per 100 followers – they don’t have to follow PC, you just have to tweet them and let me know.)
-Surprise me (I will be awarding arbitrary points based on awesomeness.)
And to help me keep track, when you send in your efforts, add “PC Big Ass Contest” to the subject line, so I won’t miss it.
THE CONTEST WILL RUN UNTIL AUGUST 5TH, MIDNIGHT PST!
Your Work
Your efforts are your work – Proton Charging retains its rights on the Fire No-Ghost logo – please do not alter the logo (other than taking out that yellow band in the fire – that was a mistake), or if you do alter it, it must be as part of a transition ending with the unaltered logo.
Of course Sony/Columbia-TriStar/etc. retain their individual rights as well, but the works you create are your own to reuse elsewhere as you like. Proton Charging will get to share your work with others. Your materials and the PC Ghost Logo are subject to a Creative Commons license;

In the event of dispute (such as a points tie or other) I flip a coin and everybody enjoys the swag they get.
DOWNLOAD THE PROTON CHARGING LOGO HERE!
The Proton Charging text logo is Impact (no, I can’t give you a copy. Sorry.)
The Proton Charging colour palette is;
White #FFFFFF
Red #8F2E2D
Grey #D2CECC
Blue #D2CECC
Green-tan #C6C779
All other materials are yours to create or find (steer clear of materials from the video game, manga, or other GB licensed goods – I will have to discount those.) Good luck!
— Official details on GB Blu-Ray – 50 Gig disc!
This clip of Sony Marketing rep Nelmari Claassens is up on YouTube – in it she talks about the Men In Black Blu-Ray before talking about the Ghostbusters Blu-Ray. Some of the details include;
-The set will be one of the first on a 50 Gig Blu-Ray disc instead of the regular 25 Gigs!
-The disc will include games, episodes of the cartoon.
-Confirms GB2 only available in set.
-The DVDs will also be issued again at the time.
It also confirms that Sony is thinking of 2009 in terms of the 25th aniversary. Thanks to Timo for the heads up.
Archived media references; playback may be unavailable.
— Prototype Slimer from GB2 for sale
Profiles in history are auctioning off a prototype Slimer costume from Ghostbusters 2. While crude compared to the final costume, it’s pretty obviously a first crack at testing the use of an actor inside the suit. Cheers to Spideristic for beating the PiH newsletter to the punch.
— RGB DVD confirmed!
Well, it’s official now – Time-Life will be producing a RGB DVD set with the intent of selling it this fall. Originally thought to be 26 discs, the set may now be 27 or 28 discs. The set will be produced by Andy Mangels (a giant cartoon fanatic, more than capable of making this the awesome), who will be talking at Comic Con in a couple of weeks – no doubt we’ll hear more about the set there. For the full article from the source that broke the news, head on over to TVShowsOnDVD.com! Thanks to everyone else that forwarded me their email newsletter from same – Gord beat you by barely that much.
[UPDATE] It appears that in addition to the Time-Life set, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will be producing a 2-disc set of the first season for sale in Germany – this is according to this German video site. The set is targeted for an October 23rd release – no word yet on other seasons yet. Danke to René for the heads up.
Und hallo zu allen jenen deutsches Ghostheads übersee! Traurig für irgendeine schlechte Grammatik. Ich erhielt einen Roboter, um dieses für mich zu übersetzen.
— Extreme Ghostbusters on DVD?
Man, you’d think I don’t read German or something. I totally missed this when Rene sent in news about the first season of Real Ghostbusters going to DVD in Germany (apparently separate from the Time-Life edition just officially announced today.)
There is a second set listed on German online retailers, which I misunderstood (even though Rene was very clear on it) for… hold onto your hat… Extreme Ghostbusters.
Which begs the question – if Sony Pictures Home Entertainment is releasing the entire Extreme Ghostbusters onto DVD in Germany, will it also make its way back to North America? Or at least the UK (any English speaking port in a storm, I say. Region free players are cheap!)
Big thanks to Rene and to Andreas – sorry for being so thick, guys.
— Kenner's Ghost Center Plan-O-Gram
X-Entertainment have posted an article on the 1987 Kenner catalog, which was sent to retailer buyers – XE pulls out the pick of the book, which is the “4 Foot Plan-O-Gram” for a Ghost Center, which is a fancy way of saying “wall of Real Ghostbuster toys.” Featured on the wall are all the first-wave RGB toys from Kenner, including the basic four action figures, Stay-Puft, “The Green Ghost”, as well as toy equipment, ghosts, cans of Ecto-Plazm, and even the plush Stay-Puft and Slimer (of which I’m proud owner of a prototype.)
Tip of the hat to Clortho for the spot.
— TL to take fan votes on RGB set design
This wasn’t supposed to be announced yet, but an erroneous, early press release has let the cat out of the bag – Time-Life, in conjunction with TVShowsOnDVD.com will be apparently holding a vote on the art used in the Real Ghostbusters DVD set coming this Fall! And that’s all we know – stay tuned. When the polls open, we’ll let you know.
— Real Ghostbusters box set art – VOTE NOW!

Well, this is it! TVShowsOnDVD.com has a page up where you can cast your vote for which box art concept you prefer. I highlight the word “concept”, so the comments don’t fill up with, “that looks bad.” These are not final art, but examples of what they have in mind. The final art, to be determined by you, will be different. The site even explains specifically that budget, time, resources, etc. will likely alter the final product. But that’s not important – what’s important is that you get to pick your favorite.
Both designs will be a slide case, with 6 disc cases inside. What’s really exciting is that both designs will have lenticular art, making it look like slime is oozing down the side of the front of the box! If you’re gonna have slime, it might as well ooze.
Voting will end on 7/25/2008 at 11:59 PM PST.
Judging from some of your comments when the contest was first announced, you’re going to be very happy with the options. Also, for those of you with Digg account, we should consider supporting TVShowsOnDVD.com, who have been big proponents of TV DVDs in general, and RGB DVDs specifically, and help spread the word – go Digg the article, and see if we can’t get it on the front page!

Be sure to vote for your favorite box art concept before Friday!
— "Get slimed in high-def!"
As Comic Con sets to explode in San Diego, Ghostbusters information has started to filter out. Want a look at the Sony/etc. Ghostbusters booth? Check out a couple of setting-up pics of at Ghostbusters.net.
The booth is hyping the Blu-Ray release of both movies on October 21st (as confirmed on booth banners, along with the quote in the subject line), but no official press releases yet.
Can’t make it to the show? No sweat – this is the era of the Internet. Just click here for a steady stream of pictures being uploaded to Flickr.
— Canadians able to buy Real Ghostbusters DVD set
It’s confirmed, Canadians will be able to pre-order and order the Real Ghostbusters DVD set – the page we’re linked to now is for the US only, which is why it doesn’t allow for entering Canadian addresses. We’ll have a Canadian ordering page link soon!
Sad news for the rest of the world though – that is the current extent of Time-Life’s ordering system. However, they seem to be referring to this as a US product line, which suggests that there is a chance that a European version may become available. This is just speculation however – if I find out more, I’ll let you know. In the mean time, impatient fans might want to pick a DVD buying buddy in North America to partner up with.
— Blu-ray details in Sci-fi magazine

Latest issue of (as far as I can tell) Sci-Fi magazine has a small, but detailed blurb on the Ghostbusters Blu-ray sets. While more details will likely come out of Comic-Con, this is a nice start;
Available Oct. 21 on Blu-ray ($56.95 two-disc set).
Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and the rest of the Ghostbusters come to Blu-ray in this collection of the 1984 film and its 1989 sequel. The Blu-ray version includes a digital copy of both films, the picture-in-picture “Slimer Mode,” exclusive featurettes and a photo gallery. Also due Oct. 21 is a limited-edition DVD double-feature gift set ($39.95) that’s packaged with a collectible scrapbook, Stay Puft Marshmallow Man figurine, trading cards and slime.
I think they got those numbers confused – the $39.95 is probably the single disc of Ghostbusters and the $59.95, as they mention at the top, is the gift set with all those goodies.
Whoops, I get it now – I missed “DVD”. Man, how many times can one person buy a DVD? For a Stay Puft doll, I’m about to find out. My word, look at all those goodies. The bad news, at least for those of you that disliked the green goo style cover (I actually liked it), is that the Blu-ray disc will use the same art – no word on a box or case for the gift set (though it would, out of necessity, totally need one with all that stuff.)
— Comic-Con sees official Real Ghostbusters DVD announcement
Time-Life has sent out a press release on the Real Ghostbusters DVD set, now that the official announcement has been made at the San Diego Comic Con today. And while we’ve heard some of these details already, it’s good to get the official list. I’ve highlighted the stuff that caught me eye – it’s all good stuff, but there are some real notables in there;

“The Real Ghostbusters has had a strong and vocal fanbase for years, and the series has been one of the most requested shows for DVD release” says Jeff Peisch, head of Time Life’s video division. “Time Life has a long history of releasing classic properties in a way that viewers appreciate, and we intend this Complete Series release to be extraordinary. From the digitally restored episodes to the extensive bonus materials, this set will have fans calling for the Ghostbusters again and again.”
To produce the most comprehensive selection of extra materials ever seen for a complete animated television series box set, Time Life has engaged the services of Special Features producers Andy Mangels and Reed Kaplan. Mangels is a best-selling novelist, author of Animation on DVD: The Ultimate Guide, and the producer whom TVShowsonDVD.com called “legendary.” Mangels and Kaplan are producing the five documentaries, 21 commentary tracks, and a multitude of other extra content surprises. The duo were assisted by James Eatock of cereal:geek magazine. “I hope that fans will be spooked by how much cool material we’re putting together for this set,” said Mangels. “We’re including everything we can, short of duplicating the keys to the Ghostbusters car, the Ecto-1.” Covers for The Real Ghostbusters set and its interior cases will be by comic artist Emiliano Santalucia and MVCreations.
— Bustin' makes me feel… what was I saying?

And you thought there was no good reason to make those Sexy Ghostbuster costumes. The full sized picture here – what’s that running on the PC, background right?
— SDCC RGB DVD FLV! (aka Comic Com Real Ghostbusters Trailer)
If you were watching all the photos coming out of Comic Con the other week, you may have noticed some TV screens at the Ghostbusters booth showing a trailer for the Real Ghostbusters DVD – well, here it is! Short, but sweet, the trailer hypes the key points of the set, shows the familiar opening titles, and includes a clip of story-lead, J. Michael Straczynski.
Time-Life is taking pre-orders on the set, at 10% off, until September 1st, so that’s less than a month to jump on that offer. Currently only US buyers and Canadian buyers shipping to a US address can order online – I’m trying to find out as many options as possible, but for the moment, those are the two sure-fire ways to get your hands on this DVD collection.
Archived media references; playback may be unavailable.
— The Proton Charging-80s Tees Big Ass Contest – closed!

Whoo! Exciting!
Actually, I wrote this days in advance, and set the timer to Midnight, August 5th – the closing date for the contest – so I’m not technically excited. I’m probably asleep.
But, I’ve seen the things you’ve been submitting and heard the things you’ve been doing, and I am, overall, very excited. Those of you that entered, thank you – I will contact you all shortly, and suffice to say with that pile of swag I gathered, I think I can swing it that nobody walks away empty handed!
Thanks gang!
— More on EGB DVD
Tristan (who’s been working on something very special for the next issue of Cereal:Geek – more on that later) spotted this – an Australian listing for a Sony Pictures release of Extreme Ghostbusters on DVD. Add that to what we’ve heard, this is very encouraging! But still, we’re without hard facts. Stay Tuned!
— RGB DVD box art choosen! Firehall!

After letting fans vote on their favorite box for the Real Ghostbusters DVD set, the winner is in – by the sounds of it, it wasn’t much of a contest, as the big favorite was the firehall, according to TVShowsOnDVD.com. Now we just have to patiently wait to see the final, non-mock-up art!
Don’t forget, September 1st is the deadline to pre-order your copy of the set and take advantage of Time-Life’s 10% deal.
— Oh, Canada – get ready to pre-order your DVDs
Well, TVShowsOnDVD.com have gotten the word from Time-Life and the Real Ghostbusters DVD set can now be pre-ordered through the Canadian Time-Life store!
Same September 1st deadline to take advantage of the 10% off pre-order deal.
— Last weekend to pre-order RGB DVDs!
This is it! This is definitely it! We’re down to the last few days of pre-order on the Time-Life Real Ghostbusters DVD set. After this weekend, no more 10% discount! So, if you haven’t already, better jump in there. This goes for you too, Canada!
— USB flashdrive to come pre-loaded with Ghostbusters
Flash drive manufacturers PNY have announced they are releasing their new 2Gig USB drive with a little something special – Ghostbusters.
We don’t know what file format and compression settings are used on the film yet, but a spokesperson for PNY explained to Custom PC that it does come with a form of DRM that prevents you from copying the movie. ‘They have DRM protection,’ explained the spokesperson, ‘so customers can download the movie onto their laptop or PC if they wish, but they have to have the USB drive plugged in to watch the movie, as the DRM is locked in the USB drive.’
Thanks to GBMaine2006 for the tip. [via Slashdot]
— New tees!
Big ups to Terry and Ed, who separately informed me that Hot Topics and Target have new Ghostbusters tees. I’m two days wagon ride from either, so you’ll have to check it out on your own.
— More info and pics from the Real Ghostbusters DVD set!

(J. Michael Straczynski and DVD producer Andy Mangels)
The pre-order deal is over, but it’s never too late to pre-order the DVD (here if you’re in Canada.)
I just received some information about the upcoming Real Ghostbusters DVD set, by Time-Life. Suffice to say, it’s not what you’d call “simple.”
For starters, Time-Life has announced that they will be using Steelbook DVD cases – you may have seen them in stores for special edition DVDs. They look like they sound – they are cases that open like a book, and the front and back “covers” are printed metal.
The Real Ghostbusters DVDs will be housed in 5 separate Steelbook cases, which will then be put in the Firehouse box.
Stay tuned for a look at the final box design!
“When we were designing what The Real Ghostbusters: The Complete Series would contain for commentaries,” says Andy Mangels, the producer of all special content on the DVDs, “my production partner, Reed Kaplan, had an excellent idea. As you’ll see from the following pictures, the commentaries are an immersive visual experience. Participants were filmed with two cameras and headset microphones, enabling them to converse freely with each other while viewing the episode. Reed designed the screen so that there are four constantly moving elements: two ‘panels’ with the commentary participants are at the top, while the lower right corner has the episode playing in realtime. The background of the widescreen image is also the episode playing, in a highly blurred fashion, essentially adding moving wallpaper. Finally, at the lower middle of the screen is a slideshow from each episode, which changes at least once per minute. We think that the Visual Commentary package looks stupendous, and it will be interesting for fans to be voyeurs to the process of creating the commentaries as they watch the people who created the series, who are in turn, watching their creation and sharing fascinating behind-the-scenes stories!”
And now, the list and particulars of the commentary tracks for all 25 discs PLUS a handful of screengrabs from the commentary tracks and menus (all lot of sites are getting their own selection of screengrabs, so be sure to make the rounds to see more) – it’s HUGE, so make the jump to see all the goodies!

— Re: RGB DVD set – Don't panic!
If you pre-ordered The Real Ghostbusters DVD set prior to August 6th, there was a tiny error, and Time-Life wants you to know that things are AOK. In short, some of you that ordered may have gotten a card (and I know some of you did) saying you had to contact them or your order would be canceled – it also had a weird release date. As it happens, you weren’t supposed to get those cards – those cards go out to people that have ordered items that are out-of-stock.
The short version is that everything is OK, your order isn’t canceled, and the set is still coming out November 15th.
Important Notice from Time Life:
If you ordered The Real Ghostbusters prior to August 6, 2008Time Life’s order processor has recently sent out postcards in error to customers that pre-ordered The Real Ghostbusters prior to August 6. The card asks customers to notify Time Life to prevent your order from being canceled. Please be assured, your orders will NOT be canceled. The notices also quoted inaccurate information and ship dates. The expected shipment date for The Real Ghostbusters is still 11-15-08.
Time Life offers its sincerest apologies for the error. These postcards are intended for customers who have ordered out-of-stock products, and the shipping time quoted is Time Life’s restock date for backorders. Time Life is working with their order processing vendor to resolve this glitch.
Thank you for your patience.
Time Life
— Überfüllung Geister macht mir ein gutes Gefühl!
Andreas sent in some awesome screengrabs from German TV, where Ray Parker Jr. recently performed… well, lip synced – which is fine! Dude looks good, and we’ve recently heard tell that the man can still jam. The German producers opted for running the recorded track, and then turning on his mic at the end – they make up for it by editing in the video (where the audio is probably coming from) and adding in dancing girls. Now you know what those girly GB costumes are good for!

Archived media references; playback may be unavailable.
— Blu-Ray still due this fall in EU?
Those of you that hate the green slime motif of the previous DVDs, get ready – not only does it persist in the French edition of the Blu-Ray, but they even come with extra slime!
[UPDATE] For those wondering about the North American release, to clarify, since Comic Con it has looked like Sony was opting to hold back the Blu-Ray release until next year, to maximize exposure alongside sales of the video game. No official word on when that will be, though Summer dates have started to pop up for the video game.
— RGB DVD clip with Len Janson
Time-Life sent us this exclusive clip from the Real Ghostbusters DVD interview extras – this one is with Len Janson, writer of a number of classic episodes, including Big Trouble with Little Slimer and Mrs. Rogers Neighborhood. Check around the other Ghostbuster sites for their clips!
You can still order the DVD online in the US (click here if you’re in Canada.)
Archived media references; playback may be unavailable.
— RGB DVD sneak peek! Now with more video!
[UPDATE] Time-Life has sent along more video! Including the NEW trailer above. And this is in addition to the exclusive clip they sent earlier in the week! These appear to be clips from the promo DVD we were sent, so now you don’t have to feel like you’re missing out!
Check out four new clips, at the end of this post!
Time-Life was kind enough to send an advanced promotional DVD for the Real Ghostbusters DVD set – the single disc features;
– 2 episodes (Take Two and The Collect Call of Cathulhu)
– The RGB Comic Con trailer
– Featurette “Something Strange In Your Neighborhood: The Creatures of The Real Ghostbusters”
– The visual commentary track for Take Two, with JM Straczynski, Joe Medjuck and Michael C. Gross (plus host and producer of the DVD set, Andy Mangels)
– Episode intros for Janine’s Ghost, Ain’t NASA-Sarily So, The Ghostbusters in Paris, and The Devil to Pay.
I invited the office to join me for some episode viewing at lunch and it was well enjoyed. Plus, we had a quick look at the Creature Feature, which has some AMAZING looks at early concept art for various baddies in the show, and a whole host of interviews with people involved. I think the only draw back is that they reference stuff in the episodes that we as fans are familiar with, but others who aren’t as familiar really wanted to see an example of. But then, they just need to go watch the shows! This is, after all, a set for the extremely well initiated.
I’m off to have a look at the commentary track – sadly, I can’t show you anything from it just yet, and the art on the box isn’t intended to represent final art, so Time-Life has asked that we not show you. Which is fair – the disc is intended for early reviews and press coverage. It’s not supposed to wow a fanboy (and as a fanboy, I think it’s pretty cool as it is. And by “is”, I mean, “existing at all.”)
Oh, one thing I can say, the show retains the ghost bumpers going to and from commercial breaks (both the Arsensio Hall and goofy voiced ghosts – what does it mean that I hear the bumpers, and it sets off the old ABC “After these messages… we’ll be riiiight baaaack” jingle? That I’m old? Oh, alright, thanks. Jerks.)

— Graham Cracker Ghostbuster-fest this Wednesday!
Those of you within driving distance of Wheaton, Illinois, this Wednesday is the special Ghostbusters: The Other Side launch party! There will be artist signings, screenings of the movies, screenings of The Real Ghostbusters (from the DVD set, by the sounds of it), and give-aways, including the new RGB issue of Cereal: Geek – to ensure yourself a spot at the party, sign up via MySpace or Facebook – head to Ghostbusters.net for the appropriate links.
— It's the mooost, wonderful tiiiiime, of the yeeeeear.

It’s that time of year again – time for me to haul out the Proton Charging annual guide to making yourself a cheap and dirty Ghostbusters costume! The kind you can take to the bar, get some high-fives, and not worry if it (or you) gets trashed.
Things have changed in the last few years that impact this guide a little – for starters, there is now a line of off-the-shelf GB costumes – both of which you can buy through 80s Tees (I’ve ordered through them before, and they are reliable and fast.) Totally cheap jumpsuit with a blow-up proton pack. One might poo-poo such a thing, but hold on there poopy – with one simple product, you have a passable jumper (remember, I advocated cheap, disposable, painter’s coveralls in a pinch) which also have the GB logos already on the shoulders! That’s two down. Add in the little flourishes from the PC Cheap-o guide (belt, boots, elbow pads) and you’ve really got something. Heck, you even sort of have a proton pack! Plus, they come in kids sizes! Moms pay attention!
They also come in sexy sizes. Sexy moms, pay attention!
Other than that, good luck, play safe, and take pictures to send in to PC!
— Master Replicas make it official! But officially what?
GBFans caught the latest announcement from Master Replicas, which confirms what has been mostly hinted at until this point – that they would be producing Ghostbuster prop replicas. What wasn’t known, and remains unknown, is what props they would be making.
“We are extremely excited to be able to enter the Ghostbusters paranormal world”, explains CEO Michael Cookson “If you’ve always dreamed owning an officially licensed “unlicensed nuclear accelerator” or are just looking for innovative collectibles that will remind you of the legendary antics of Ray, Egon, Peter and Winston, the Master Replicas range will offer a wealth of choices.”
They mention that besides some classic and entirely expected props, they would be throwing in some “surprises” as well, but we won’t know more until they announce their prop line-up, on Halloween. Stay tuned.
— More peeks at the Blu-Ray collectors set

A month back we had a tiny look at the Blu-Ray two-disc collectors pack, containing both Ghostbusters movies and the small tub of slime that comes with it, but of course we’ve known for awhile that the set was due to contain more. And now we can have a tiny look at some of that “more.”
Proving that you should always take a cursory look at all the promotional materials that come in a swag bag, I was cleaning out my office and while tossing out the odds and ends I brought back from PAX, I discovered an ad in VB magazine’s special Comic-Con and PAX 2008 collector’s issue. Sadly, the date still reflects an October release that has been pushed back now, as far as we know, but it’s a nice look at some of the other stuff that comes in the set, such as the collectors cards – and look at that Stay-Puft statue (click for larger version than above)!
— New RGB DVD clip! New discount code?
With only a few weeks to go, Time Life has sent us another great clip, this time of Michael C Gross talking about the road to getting an animated Ghostbusters on the air!
And GBFans is reporting a new discount code for pre-ordering the full set by this Saturday, October 25th! So, if you haven’t ordered it yet and are bummed you didn’t pre-order at the previous discount, it looks like you’ve got a second, short chance. Note: This code is for US purchases only.

— Real Ghostbusters DVD set – First Look!

Wow. I’m just going to sit here are stare. I’ll let Time-Life tell us more;
Finally, we’re pleased to be sending you a product shot of the 25-DVD set, “The Real Ghostbusters–The Complete Collection.” As mentioned before this set includes:
–All 147 episodes of “The Real Ghostbusters” and “Slimer! And The Real Ghostbusters.”
–Over 13 hours of bonus material, including: featurettes, on-camera commentaries, episode introductions, interviews with voice actors and series production people, scripts, original art, and much more.
–The DVDs come in 5 separate STEELBOOK sub-sets, each with 5 DVDs (volume 5 has 4 DVDs). Plus, DVD #25 is a bonus DVD with nearly 3 hours of material, including the never-before-seen promotional pilot (with commentary and storyboards).
–A 52-page booklet with exclusive art, RGB trivia and more.
–And, it all comes in the Firehouse box, with lenticular panels.
I hope you like the product shot.
…
The 25-DVD set is the only way to get the Firehouse package and the 52 page booklet; and, importantly, it’s the only way to get the bonus DVD, which contains the very rare pilot for The Real Ghostbusters.
I include the last bit to clarify – it’s come to light that Time-Life will be releasing a series of volume editions throughout 2009-2010. The first in January will be five discs, 30 episodes, which would suggest another three or four sets by mid-2010. This is a handy option for the casual consumer, but for anyone looking for the full series, it’s likely not the way to go. Besides the lack of key bonus materials and taking nearly two years to complete the full set, it’s not unlikely the final cost will be similar to the collectors set, or close enough that why wouldn’t you want to grab it now. That’s my opinion mind you – I do not have the full details on the volume sets.
[UPDATE] Gord at TVShowsOnDVD.com has some great close-ups of the RGB DVD packaging! Check it out!
— RGB DVD promo code for Canadians
Time-Life kindly responded to our request for a little love for Canadian fans, what with the US getting another crack at a pre-order deal, and they’ve come back with a deal – if you’re buying the Real Ghostbusters DVD from the Canadian website (and you have to, if you want it shipped to a Canadian address), enter SLIMER as a discount code and get $15 off the order (that’s a bit under 9%, which helps offset shipping a bit.) So far this is the only Time-Life Canada promo code available since the original code for pre-ordering the set. This code will be active until November 26th.
— Full-sized Slimer statue!
Matthew sent in this YouTube clip of Howard S Studios showing off their fantastic Slimer casting – I’m not entirely sure why they did it, but it now sits in their front offices.
[UPDATE] Ah, so that’s what they made it for – big bucks! If you’ve got $1300 lying around, it can be yours!
Archived media references; playback may be unavailable.
— More peeps at Real Ghostbusters case – pics and vid!
Time-Life has sent us some more promotional goods on the Real Ghostbusters DVD set, particularly the Steelbook disc cases. Some of this are elements we saw from Friday’s pic, but most are a new high-rez peek at the packaging. Maaaan, I don’t want to wait another couple of weeks!
– Full set unpacked and on display
– Firehall case
– All Steelbooks, with one open
– Steelbook One
– Steelbook Two
– Steelbook Three
– Steelbook Four
– Steelbook Five
Archived media references; playback may be unavailable.
— Master Replicas hit glitch, but make announcement
While they were supposed to announce their products on their special Ghostbusters site, Master Replicas is apparently having a little technical difficulty. But rather than let Halloween pass with no word, MR made a short post on their main site.
Happy Halloween!
-Ghost Trap Limited Edition 1:1 scale with lights, sounds and other features. ETA: Spring 2009
-Proton Pack Limited Edition 1:1 scale with lights, sounds and other features. ETA: Fall 2009
Other products will be announced shortly. This is only the beginning!
Colour me surprised – I didn’t think they’d go for a 1:1 scale proton pack. That’s going to be one pricey piece of beautiful. Thanks to Brendan and Daniel.
— Best reason to play football, ever.
If you had a hard time finding one of those Sexy Ghostbuster costumes this year, I think I might know why. It’s an army! And they’ve captured Mr. Stay-Puft, so don’t mess with them!
— Master Replica site is live
Thanks to Paul at Spook Central for the heads up that Master Replica’s Ghostbusters site – 5552368.com (you remember that number, yeah?) – has gone live. So far the site has no new information or images, but it’s nice to see it working. And the four question quiz to get in is a tough one!
— RGB DVD set delayed (DON'T PANIC) as Time-Life stands by its customers
Anybody who has pre-ordered a copy of the Real Ghostbusters DVD set has or will get a letter from Time-Life – the letter explains that elements of the Firehall box set that were included as extra awesome are adding to the production time of the boxes – This means they do not expect to have sets to ship until November 25th.
HOWEVER!
They have a plan, that will more than set the matter straight;
We know this will come as a disappointment to many, so we have decided to provide all of our pre-order customers with FREE FedEx Express shipping. Our standard shipping time is 2 weeks, so you will still get your set in the same timeframe (probably sooner)!
When you see all the fantastic features this collection has to offer, we’re sure you’ll agree it was worth the wait. So charge up your proton packs…The Real Ghostbusters is almost here!
Sincerely,
A. Davis
Time Life, Customer Care ManagerP.S. The credit or debit card you used to pre-order this set will be charged the week of November 25 when we package your collection to ship.
Please note, this only applies to orders made prior to November 15th (that’s this Saturday!) – anybody holding off until after the 15th can expect delivery around December 10th or later. So, if that’s not a great reason to pre-order, I don’t know what is. Look at it like this – pre-order, use the awesome discount codes Time-Life has offered (SLIMMER in the US and SLIMER in Canada), and get free shipping that will arrive, in all likelihood, quicker than regular shipping.
[UPDATE] The SLIMER code works for both US and Canadian pre-orders.
— Firehall packaging – sneak peek!
Time-Life, continuing to be awesome guys, sent out some example firehall boxes for us all to look at. Suffice to say, they’re awesome – and rather than me reinventing the wheel, why not have a look at Chad’s wicked video short on the matter.
Tell me this set isn’t going to be eight shades of awesome – Plus, it looks to me like that bad boy will fit on a shelf with the rest of the DVDs!

— Profiles in History to sell Venkman jumps and Terrordog
Profiles In History‘s next Hollywood auction features Bill Murray’s screen-seen jumpsuit and one of the stop-motion maquette Terrordogs used to create the rooftop scene. And they’re really cheap! (Just kidding – No they’re not!)
414. Original khaki “Ghostbuster” jumpsuit from Ghostbusters. (Columbia, 1984) Original khaki ripstop fabric jumpsuit with zippered pockets and “Ghostbuster” logo patch on right shoulder. Marked “TBS” on the inside with “Warner Bros.” barcode label below. This jumpsuit was discovered at Warner Bros. with the included “VENKMAN” (played by Bill Murray) name patch detached and in one of the pockets. Comes with Warner Bros. certificate of authenticity. $5,000 – $7,000
415. Screen-used Terror dog Stop-motion puppet from Ghostbusters. (Columbia, 1984) This is the Terror Dog animation puppet used as Sigourney Weaver’s alter ego in the hit Academy nominated comedy Ghostbusters. The figure is constructed of foam latex and measures 20 in. long and stands 10 in. high. It was designed, sculpted and stop-motion animated by Randall William Cook, who went on to win three Oscars® for his animation supervision of the characters in the Lord of the Rings series. Once the Terror Dog shots were completed, this puppet was stripped from its armature, then touched up, encased and given to visual effects wizard Richard Edlund by the Boss Film Creature Shop. Accompanied with a signed letter of authenticity by Richard Edlund. $12,000 – $15,000
Big thanks to Kristopher for the heads up!
— Slow playback on certain RGB DVD episodes NOT from PAL masters
Andy Mangels, cartoon DVD wizard and the mad genius behind the RGB DVD sets post on PC to clarify that the slow, surreal playback on some episodes/discs from the set, are not because the came from PAL masters;
I can guarantee you that they are not, and I don’t know why Paul thinks they are different.
I spent 10 days at Technicolor going through over 600 1″ Master NTSC tapes, finding the most complete and best set of ORIGINAL masters I could.
These are 100% from NTSC masters, and AS ORIGINALLY AIRED, unless the labels were lying. Some of the ABC shows even had the original commercials in place.
Best,
Andy Mangels
http://www.AndyMangels.com
Which then begs the question, is it a problem with the encoding the discs themselves? Is it a problem with the whole disc or just certain episodes? Are those episodes affected consistent in all sets? As usual, the comments are there for everyone to help provide feedback.
— Busting makes him feel good. Going bust does not.

Mr. Hartman sent in a YouTube link to a clip of old-school poker ace Doyle Brunson, which has a brief glimpse of his good luck topper, a zippo he calls Casper (but features the No-Ghost logo) – where he got it and why he considers it lucky isn’t clear, but apparently he was renting it out at the World Series of Poker for $100 an hour!
The black zippo is one he’s had for awhile, and doesn’t look like the cheap, unofficial ones constantly for sale on eBay (his ghost looks like it’s upside-down on the bottom, the cheap ones have the logo on them right-side up on the bottom, and are silver in colour.) The zippo is engraved “Dolly” on the flip-top, which is short for his nickname, Texas Dolly, which he earned when a tournament announcer incorrectly read “Texas Doyle”. It just goes to show, you can’t pick your own nickname – it never sticks.
[UPDATE] At the 2005 World Series of Poker, the 75-year-old Doyle sold the zippo to poker pro Howard Lederer for $3500. Lucky zippo indeed!
— January retail release of Real Ghostbusters DVD confirmed
TVShowsOnDVD.com has confirmed that January 27th will be the official release date of the Real Ghostbusters DVDs into stores, starting with Volume 1.
The set will sell for at a SRP of $39.98, but Amazon is currently taking pre-orders at $27.99 (plus the item is eligible for free-shipping.) Amazon and others are displaying the SteelBook case for the set, but this is incorrect apparently.
For the time being, big fans that can’t wait a whole year to pick the sets up individually can still buy it online at Time-Life (Canadians can order here) – at $179.99 plus shipping, it’s easily a better value than the retail sets combined.
— Real Ghostbusters DVD singles delayed
Item 1 from “RGB DVD singles delayed, IDW TPB taking pre-orders”. This mixed-topic post has been separated by subject.
The January 27th release of the first of the individual DVD sets for Time-Life’s Real Ghostbusters collection has been pushed back to the end of March, according to TV Shows On DVD. This shouldn’t mean much to most fans, as the collected set (see links at the side) are still available, and are – at the lower cumulative price plus extras – the better deal. However, we thought you might want to know.

Thanks to Matthew for the heads up.
— HotTopic to sell exclusive buckle
Big ups to The Doodle Vandal for sending in this pic of the Ghostbusters belt-buckle that they will be selling this year. The metal buckle with enamel insets is an exclusive to Hot Topic, will be produced in a limited number, so if you spot one, grab it. They won’t be making more, it sounds like.

As soon as the buckle is available online (provided it is available online), we’ll let you know.
— Neutronize the grid
And by “neutronize”, we mean “buy”,
Bill sent in this eBay listing for what is an impressive replica of the Ghostbusters containment grid. Frankly, I wish I had sixteen hundred bucks lying around and the space for it, but surely someone out there might give it a home. And if nothing else, we can all watch this video, and dream.
The wording is a little confusing, but this is NOT the set prop from either of the films.

— 1989 Hardees GB2 banner

I have a complete set of the battery powered sirens Hardees gave out as part of their co-promotion of Ghostbusters 2 with Coca-Cola. I’m proud of them as the sirens were quickly pulled from distribution when it was pointed out that the battery cover and the batteries themselves were a bit of a choking hazard for small kids. Having a set of them is a bit of awesome.
However, a lot of the items Hardees produced for GB2 are awfully rare. Hardees was/is by no means as ubiquitous as McDonalds or Burger King, so their GB2 swag remains rare treasure. One example would be the banners each store had to promote themselves as a Ghostbusters 2 HQ – there were produced to match the number of stores, not the number of kids coming to the stores, and so are automatically as rare as the sirens, maybe even moreso.
Linear Ranger sent in some pics of one of these banners that he owns, thanks to the manager of his local Hardees, who was kind enough to save it for them after the promotion. Thanks Ryan!
One, Two, Three, Four, Five, Six, Seven!
— Read-along makes me feel good

Dan Elektro sent in this awesome link to The Secret Cavern of Read Along Treasures – it’s not that secret, it turns out.
Besides having a phenomenal selection of old read-along record mp3, and movies on record, they have a handful of Ghostbusters read-alongs, including the film, The Ghostbusters Meet the Laser Ghost, and two of the Carnival books.
— Mattel announces anniversary GB figures!
The headline says it all – Mattel announced today that they would be producing a set of movie figures for Ghostbusters, as well as figures from the cartoon.
The figures, slated for a June release, will include exclusive 12″ figures of the four Ghostbusters – Select figures will be on display at the New York Comic Con and New York International Toy Fair. 6″ figures of characters and ghosts from the film as well as The Real Ghostbusters, will debut at the San Diego Comic Con this July – no release date for them has been announced.
Culver City, Calif. – February 4, 2009 – Sony Pictures Consumer Products and Mattel, Inc. announced today the development of a new collectible line of toys based on the world’s favorite poltergeist fighting team, the Ghostbusters, including an extensive cast of ghosts and ghostbusters – celebrating the 25th anniversary of the frightfully funny classic film “Ghostbusters.”
Mattel’s “Ghostbusters” collectible line, debuts with 12-inch figures in June 2009, and will be available exclusively at MattyCollector.com. Each figure will feature window box packaging and include authentic Ghostbuster equipment unique to each character. For the first time, Mattel’s line will include talent likeness of Egon Spengler, Ray Stantz, Peter Venkman and Winston Zeddemore. Select prototype figures will be on display February 6-8 at New York Comic Con and February 15 at Mattel’s New York Toy Fair Collector Preview Night (by invitation only.).
“We have assembled a quality group of licensing partners to support and celebrate the anniversary for one of Columbia Pictures most cherished properties. Mattel’s line-up of collector toys is the perfect complement to what will be a great selection of 25th anniversary product,” said Juli Boylan, Senior Vice President, Sony Pictures Consumer Products Worldwide.
“Ghostbusters” collectors can also look forward to 6-inch figures, with one debuting at San Diego Comic Con in July 2009. Sculpted by Four Horsemen Studios, the team currently working on Mattel’s popular DC Universe™ Classics and Masters of the Universe® Classics collectible lines, the 6-inch line will come complete with authentic “Ghostbusters” equipment and ghost.
“There haven’t been many comedic blockbusters over the past quarter century as memorable and loved as ‘Ghostbusters,'” said Tim Kilpin, GM for Boys, Girls & Games, Mattel, Inc. “We are honored to participate in the celebration of the film’s 25th anniversary by creating the most extensive line of ‘Ghostbusters’ collectibles ever.”
Mattel will also create characters and ghosts from the classic animated series, “The Real Ghostbusters,” to go along with the classic “Ghostbusters” film.
Big thanks to Matthew, Andreas, Sean, Jason, Nik, Terry, Jerome, and the dozens and dozens of others that mailed in the news. Thanks!
— Ghostbusters costume on display in West Virginia
As part of a traveling exhibition of science-fiction film costumes organized by the Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame, Seattle, Washington, GB fans in Charleston, West Virginia will get a chance to peep a Ghostbusters costume this week at The Clay Center.
[Out of this World:
Extraordinary Costumes from Film and Television] includes 43 costumes and artifacts from Star Wars, Batman, Blade Runner, The Terminator, Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, The Wizard of Oz, Ghostbusters and other films and television shows.
This is apparently just the jumpsuit, not suit and proton pack. The display opens Saturday, February 7th and continues to May 10th. Tickets are $7 for adults, $5.50 for kids.
— Minimates v. Kubricks?
Looks like it. Art Asylum, makers of Minimates (you’ve probably seen them at the local comic shop – think Kubricks, but with articulated elbows and knees), posted this in their official blog today;
Can you believe it? It has been 25 years since the release of the original Ghostbusters. Just like everything else that people who grew up in the 80s have fond memories of there are talks of a remake. I personally think they should just leave well enough alone. The original was awesome (the less said about part 2 the better)! Sure, the effects look a bit dated and it is obvious they are using miniatures in parts, but that is part of the charm. The point of all this is: What better time for us to come out with the Ghostbusters in Minimates form? Be prepared for us to hit you up with Dr. Peter Venkman, Dr. Egon Spengler, Louis Tully as Gozer’s dog and the possessed Dana Barrett. If you suddenly find your Minimate collection invaded by those spooky ghosts, who ya gonna call?
One wonders then if we’ll ever see the Kubrick Ghostbusters, or if that will be a Japan only phenomenon (ebay, here I come.) Thanks to Juan for the heads up!
— Mattel 12" Ghostbuster figures – first look!
I’ve got nothing to say, other than go look. Oh, and where’s Winston? (be warned, the site is slow to load today, for obvious reasons.) Thanks to Matt and Jason for the link.
[UPDATE] The display plaque says the figures are due Fall 2009, which contradicts the official announcement a few days ago, that had them coming out June-August. For now, the official text trumps tradeshow signs that may have been made months ago.
— NYCC: Mattel figures and Minimates
Item 2 from “NYCC Day Two!”. This mixed-topic post has been separated by subject.
It was a big first day with a look at the Mattel Ghostbuster figures, but the party isn’t over yet.
– FEARnet has more, close-up pics of the Mattel figs.
– Ghostbusters.net has a pic of the Art Asylum Ghostbusters Minimates promo poster, featuring a block-man recreation of a certain movie poster.
— Minimates pics and Stay-Puft piggy bank?
Big thanks to Timo for sending in these galleries of photos of the two Minimates sets – one apparently made up of possessed Louis, possessed Dana, Venkman, Egon, and a terror dog, and the other made up of Winston, Ray, Gozer, an amazing looking Slimer and Stay-Puft.
Also, the gallery of photos contains shots of a Diamond Select Stay-Puft coin bank! Coooool. The figures aren’t until the Fall, but the bank is out in July. Both the bank and the figure sets retails for $19.99.
[UPDATE] The display card in the middle of the Minimates sets reads $15.99, not $19.99. Plus, there is only a sign for “series 2” in the Fall of 2009, which means there’s a likely possibility Series 1 will be out in the Summer (though I haven’t confirmed this yet – would have been nice if someone had taken a picture of the Series 1 display card!)
— The Most Expensive Hoodie Ever!
Chogrin sent in some links – the first are to some Mad Engine tees and hoodies, some with nice Ghostbuster designs (finally, a zip up hoodie with the logo!)
– Black Zip Hoodie
– Ghostbusters Sporty Tee
– Ghostbusters Black Trap Tee
– Ghostbusters Black Retro Tee
– Ghostbusters Collage Tee
– Ghostbusters Icky Sticky Tee

All fine clothes – but apparently the top shelf Ghosthead this year will be shelling out (get ready – you might want to sit) $170 for this hoodie by Secret Base. I’m… I’m still trying to decide what I make if this thing. The Slimer lining and red zip and string is possibly the coolest thing ever. The Secret Base name tag and Ghostbusters booty-stamp, not so much.
— Master Replica drops Ghostbuster prop license
Master Replica, which pulled down all materials related to their announced line of Ghostbuster props, is now dropping the line all together.
As a fan, I wish I could reassure everyone that GB is still on for MR. Unfortunately, it is with deep regret that MR has decided to cancel the plans we had with Sony for Ghostbusters. While I cannot get into specifics, I can tell you on a personal level that we cannot afford to give Ghostbusters prop replicas the justice and treatment they deserve and I apologize for any frustration or disappointment this will cause any fans. Rather than hold on to the license and wait for what seemed inevitable, we’ve decided to make the announcement today. Thank you for your understanding.
If you were one of many people who asked, “just how much would a replica proton pack cost?”, you might have your answer.
This is a shame, but companies need to make money, and there’s no doubt about it, making replica props that would measure up to all the incredible fan replicas out there, and generate the required profit, was always a long shot, if not impossible. It was nice to dream the impossible dream, at least for awhile. Thanks to Shades for the heads up.
— RGB DVD behind-the-scenes
Paul over at Spook Central has a gallery of 97 (!) photos Jame “Cereal Geek” Eatock took during the making of the bonus materials for the Time-Life Real Ghostbusters DVD set. You’ve got to see this.
— Art Asylum hint at variant Stay Puft bank
Having just barely surprised us by announcing their Stay-Puft piggy bank in New York, Art Asylum (makers of the upcoming Ghostbusters minimates) have hinted at a variant version of the bank, featuring angry faced Mr. Stay-Puft!
All in all, Art Asylum has been posting some great stuff about their upcoming products, and regular to boot. And if that’s not enough for you, AJ has been posting some sweet prototype photos and design sheets for the GB Minimates. Check it out.
— Ghostbusters custom Mighty Muggs (if only they were real)

Given that I live in an office that is slowly filling up with Mighty Muggs, I whole-heartedly approve of someone creating their own, custom Peter Venkman Mugg. Cheers, Ego, for the link.
— You can never have enough shirts
Those of you that recall the t-shirt round-up article from way back when will know that we love Ghostbuster t-shirts here at PC – and Glennz Tees has another great shirt to go with their original design, Haunted Housework (which was conspicuously absent from the round-up, oddly). Thanks to Dane, JJ, and the literally dozens of you that emailed to let me know.
— More Target tees
Word has it that Target is selling Ghostbuster tees – but are they old designs or something new? It has been awhile since they last offered shirts. Anybody been in a Target lately?
— Ghostbusters Blu-ray cover (it's blue)
Ditching the green slime covers from recent DVD releases, Sony has apparently released a look at the Blu-ray cover, which is, appropriately (or not) blue. Here’s hoping they correct the spelling for Dan’s name before release, right Mr. “Akroyd”? One assumes the GB2 Blu-ray will have a similar cover colour.
Thanks to j0ker for the tip. [via TheDigitalBits.com]
[UPDATE] Columbia Tristar spotted the error (or heard the wails of disgust) and updated the cover misspelling of Aykroyd. You all still have to come to grips with the blue however. Thanks, Paul!
— Yowza! Amazon makes RGB DVD deal even sweeter!
Originally reported as dropping the suggested retail price of the first volume of the Real Ghostbusters DVD set, from $39.98USD to $27.99USD, Amazon has dropped it even more, with three weeks to go until release – you ready? $21.99USD! That’s nearly half off! And assuming they maintain that awesome savings across the other four volumes to come this year, that puts the whole series at a mere $109.95USD! (plus shipping) That’s assuming that price holds though – this might be an offer to draw people into buying the first, looking to convince them to pick up the others at a higher, though still reasonable price. And it has to be pointed out again and again, you can’t get the extra materials (bonus DVD, booklet with episode guide and trivia, fancy box) unless you buy the full set direct from Time Life (link for Canadian buyers).
— Secret Base offers new, inexplicable, expensive t-shirt

— GBShirts.com – Nothing but GB shirts!
AJ over at GBFans.com has finished setting up his Ghostbusters specific t-shirt shop and it’s ready! Best selection of official Ghostbusters shirts anywhere online! Here’s a sample, and there’s a lot more after the jump – or just go to the site now! Why wait!

— Ghostbusters rock poster

Artist Jenn Divulge put this poster together and it is pretty awesome, I must say. It’s hard to live up to the golden age of rock posters, but this one certainly gives it a good shot. Thanks to Chogrin for the tip!
— Web exclusive GB t-shirt from Urban Outfitters
When you think about it, there really is no limit to the amount of t-shirts they can make with a Ghostbusters theme – this web only t-shirt, exclusive to Urban Outfitters, might also be the first piece to the easiest-to-make, bar-hopping, Ghostbusters Halloween costume ever.
Thanks Greg!
— Ghostbusters v. Pac-Man round 2
This mutual, ghost fighting bond between the Ghostbusters and Pac-Man is a favorite of t-shirt designers. Busted Tees gave me a heads up on this shirt of their’s and I nearly forgot about it.

— Ghostbusters v. Pac-Man round 3
And the hits keep comin’!

Busted t-shirt design @ © SplitReason.com
Thanks to WebScud for the heads up.
— Ghostbusters v. Mario
The gang at split reason love mashing Ghostbusters and video games together, as evidenced by their Mario-hommaged No-Ghost t-shirt.

Boo Busters t-shirt design @ © SplitReason.com
Thanks to David at the NJGBs for the link!
— Bio World Merch producing GB goodies
A quick look at the Gamestop online store listings has some new additions besides the various versions of the game – they’re listing some Ghostbusters clothing, presumably to attract point of purchase buys from people coming in to pick up the Ghostbusters game. The items are being produced by Bio World Merchandising, which has a solid line of clothing featuring brands.
There are three items listed;
Glow-in-the-dark Belt ($14.99)
Wallet ($14.99)
Wristband ($4.99)
These are, presumably, separate from the bonus item that comes with pre-orders. Still no word on the strategy guide that was originally slated for release along with the Activision publication, last year. Hopefully Prima didn’t find themselves stuck with 10,000 copies of a guide that had the wrong publisher stamped on it.
Thanks to Tim for the tip.
— Dapper Dan offers up GB prints for sale

— One-of-a-kind collectibles
As the world fills up with more and more Ghostbusters t-shirts (never a bad thing) and everybody and their dog comes out of the woodwork, swearing they’ve always been massive fans, how does a real Ghosthead stand out? Why, with special handcrafted Ghostbusters items, of course. I’ve collected a couple myself over the years, though it was never as easy as buying online is now. (And if you haven’t yet, check out Dan’s prints – they’re what got me thinking about this stuff.)
Etsy.com has two pages of Ghostbuster items of varying levels of quality, but there are some choice picks; special lucky poker chips featuring Slimer or Mr. Stay-puft, hand screens posters, a tote-bag made of RGB bedsheets, and my favorite, this Terror Dog shirt.

— Blu-ray trailer re-appears
After briefly popping up on a number of sites last week (and almost immediately being ordered down by Sony), the trailer for the soon-to-be-released Blu-ray edition of Ghostbusters is back again. Mostly made up of film footage and voice-over, the trailer does show a little of the PIP commentary and a couple shots from the featurette of the restoration of the Ecto-1. It mentions Slimer Mode, but really… it doesn’t explain it to viewers very well. But hey! Slimer Mode! Who doesn’t want something called Slimer Mode?

— TWIG reviews the RGB DVD set
The madmen over at TWIG are taking a look at a pile of DVDs on their desk, starting with The Real Ghostbusters DVD set by Time-Life. If you haven’t been listening to TWIG, they have amazing guests (Maurice Lamarche) and not-bad guests (me), and I’ve heard a rumour they will have a fan-commentary for Ghostbsuters in the works, so now’s a good time to get on board with This Week In Geek.
— Time-Life slashes RGB DVD set price!
With the first, no-frills volume of The Real Ghostbusters due out on DVD tomorrow, Time-Life is offering the special edition set for $35 off – $144, basically. Not a bad price, making it about $30 more than buying the individual no-frills volumes (at Amazon’s price), but getting the amazing bonus disc, the fantastic episode / trivia guide, and firehall case.
— Summer Con Minimates revealed
Diamond select has announced they will be producing a special two-figure pack of Venkman in Ghostbusters 2 uniform and glow-in-the-dark Mr. Stay-Puft for the 2009 San Diego Comic Con. No picture as yet. Thanks to AJ for the spot.
— Minimates con exclusive – picture
Whoops. I totally missed the image included, almost hiding, on the Action Figure news website. The Stay Puft is Stay Puft, though he apparently glows, but the GB2 Peter is essentially the Peter in the crystal store bust you see in the we’re-back montage – hence the really dark suit and the sunglasses.

— Mattel reveals SDCC exclusives
I hate all news that’s released on April 1st. Just… bleh. But regardless of my unease, this would be an expensive collection of sculpts just for a joke.
Matty Collector’s, the online only source for a number of specialty Mattel items, including the upcoming 12 inch and 6 inch Ghostbusters figures, has posted images of their 2009 SDCC exclusives – included is a 6 inch work-soiled Egon and Slimer on a stand.
[UPDATE] From Mattel’s own press release on the matter;
Yes, all of the action figure exclusives will be sold online after the show (ideally that Monday, but it is too far off right now to tell) on Mattycollector.com.
— Hallmark to release Ecto-1 ornament
The Linear “who was that masked man” Ranger sent in this scan from a Hallmark 2009 Dream Book catalog, which features an official Sony/GM licensed Ecto-1 – item has a button, that when pressed, plays a snippet of Ray Parker Jr.’s Ghostbusters theme. Release date for the item isn’t clear – perhaps as early as July, but also possibly in October, when the Halloween/Christmas ornament push happens. Stay tuned.

— TWIG posts their GB DVD commentary
As mentioned earlier, the guys at This Week in Geek have recorded and posted their own fan commentary for GB, which you can download and listen along to with your DVD copy of the movie. I haven’t listened to it yet, but they haven’t done wrong yet with their commentaries. Thanks to Ed for the link.
— Gamestop shows off wristband, belt buckle – no wallet yet
Gamestop has listed three Ghostbuster items for awhile, but just recently posted pictures of a couple of them – the wristband, which is as you’d expect, and the “belt”, which turns out to be similar to the exclusive, non-glowing, belt buckle Hot Topic may be carrying. No picture of the the wallet though – stay tuned. Thanks Tim!
— Ghostbusters rock poster 2
After their amazing Stay-Puft v. Slimer poster from a few weeks back, Divulge Designs has a new gig poster, featuring everyone’s favorite pair of hellsent twins. Thanks Chogrin!
— Blu-ray shows off full art – will have feature about video game.
Sony has revealed the back of the Blu-ray disc to go along with the blu-goo front art we’ve seen already. The case art also says the disc will feature a making-of for the Ghostbusters video game as well as the featurette on the Ecto-1. The disc will also contain the original extras found on previous DVD releases, and an Ecto-1 photo gallery. Thanks Peter!
— Gamestop reveals wallet
Gamestop.com finally has a picture of the Ghostbusters wallet they are selling, to go along with the belt buckle and wristband previously seen. The item looks like printed vinyl with the logo, slime, and the source of the slime, Slimer. Thanks to Paul, Justin and Dave for the heads up.
— Ghostbusters Minimates – behind the scenes
Art Asylum has posted a behind-the-scenes blog on the design and production of the Ghostbuster Minimates, including some more concept art.
We wanted to get all of the iconic gear into Minimate form, and taking a page from the Punisher War Zone Minimate, we made sure that each Ghostbuster could carry all of their respective equipment at once. Ray would have his goggles, Egon his PKE meter, and Peter a radio to report a Slimer sighting.
— Amazon.fr taking pre-orders on Extreme Ghostbusters DVD plus box art!
Maaaaan. I mean, hommmmmmmmme.
It’s been known for awhile that the EU, or at least France, was going to get their own editions of The Real Ghostbusters DVDs and more importantly, their own DVDs of The Extreme Ghostbusters. Now we have a release date and box art. June 24th, a week after the release of the movie Blu-ray discs and video games, French S.O.S. Phantomes fans can buy the first set of DVDs. The DVD is listed as “season 1, volume 1”, though the box says “the spook-tacular first season.” So, it’s not clear if this is only part of the series, but it is likely. At four dozen episodes, Extreme Ghostbusters is a lot to put into a single, simple set as shown on the website. The Real Ghostbusters DVD set is definitely just the first chunk.
Now, here’s the question. Why are the boxes in English? UK sets coming? North American sets coming? Let’s hope so. Stay tuned. Thanks to Biodome for the heads up.
[UPDATE] The DVD is also slated for release in Australia as well as France (as seen on GBFans forums) – the set is 13 episodes on two discs, so expect two or three more to come.
— GBCollector.com goes live! Reveals names of Amazon Minimates.
It’s been awhile since we’ve had a new website devoted to just the toys and collectibles of Ghostbusters, but gbcollector.com is up and running, and they’ve got an exclusive look at the four Minimates that come with Amazon.com’s exclusive Slimer Edition of the videogames (including their names – yes, they’re monsters from the game!)
And hey, why not get involved yourself! You can submit photos of your own collection!
— Diamond Select reveals Slimer vinyl bank
While we’ve seen their Mr. Stay Puft piggy bank (and even had a sneak-peek at their variant Stay Puft bank), DST has just released an image of their prototype Slimer piggy bank. Check it out! Thanks to The Soupcan for the tip.
— Profiles in History – Forrest J Ackerman estate sold, amazing pics.

[UPDATE] The auctions, minus #414, have been removed. We’ll have to see if they come back. It could be a temporary database thing on their end.
The day Forrest J Ackerman died was a sad day for fans of pop sci-fi and horror. Forrey had accumulated a staggering amount of movie collectibles going back to the 50s. In his final years friends had helped him unload some of the collection, allowing him a comfortable retirement, which he filled by giving tours of his house, which for all intents and purposes was one giant museum.
Forrey passed away last December at age 92, leaving many to wonder what would happen to his amazing collection – as it happens, a lot of it is being offered through an upcoming Profiles in History auction. And even more amazing are the Ghostbuster items he amassed, including test sculpts, maquettes, concept sketchs, and more. And then just because, PiH has tossed in Harold Ramis’ GB2 jumpsuit that they acquired from Ghostbusters producer Michael C Gross. Click the lots to see the amazing pictures! Thanks to David at the New Jersey GBs for the tip.

— More info, better picture for Hallmark Ecto-1
Ryan has sent in some more details on the Hallmark Ecto-1 ornament, as Hallmark collectors start getting their copies of the Hallmark Dream Book in the mail. The car will retail for $18.50US and will be released July 11th during Hallmark’s Ornament Premiere. While Hallmark collectors will get first dibs, regular Ghostheads should be able to find it at their local Hallmark store. And it’s not simply an ornament – the wheels turn!

— Play.com giving away Ecto-1 keychain with Ghostbusters Blu-ray
Chris sent in a link to Play.com’s listing for the Blu-ray Ghostbusters disc – turns out, they’re giving away an Ecto-1 keychain, the same item given out at various press events in previous months, as well as Amazon.com exclusive Slimer Edition. As it’s not certain is Sony will be selling the collector’s editions planned for North America, in the UK, this could be a good way for British collectors to get some bonus Ghostbusters swag.

— GBFans has exclusive look at Slimer Edition statue
Many have commented they can’t see the value of Amazon’s exclusive Slimer Edition of the game, mostly because they were overlooking the statue. Presented on the Amazon site without scale or context, few realized just how big, how solid, and how unique the statue is. Standing 10.5 inches tall, the statues are limited to 6500 pieces, the are ONLY available through Amazon’s Slimer Edition, and each one comes with a certificate of authenticity from the sculptor… the original Slimer sculptor for the film, Steve Johnson.
Suddenly that $130 seems way more impressive, when compared to similarly sized and limited statues you might find at your local comic shop.
Check out GBFans.com’s entire feature and it’s photos of the statue here.
[UPDATE] AJ has also posted pics of the Slimer Edition boxes – they’re not a lot different from the main boxes, but still… coooooool. Follow link above to GBFans.com and scroll down a little.
— First look at console skins from Slimer Edition
GBFans has gotten a look at the Gamer Graffix created console skins that will be included with the Amazon.com exclusive Slimer Edition of the Ghostbusters video game. The stickers are character appliques rather than whole console skins, but still, who can say no to putting a Mr. Stay-Puft on their Xbox 360?
— Another Japanese design house takes on Ghostbusters
If you didn’t like Secret Base’s line of Ghostbusters inspired hipster wear, then maybe you’ll like these t-shirts by fellow Japanese design firm, A Bathing Ape.

The t-shirts are plain white, and fairly subdued, with all three shirts sporting a slightly cuter Ghostbusters logo – two being climbed on by mascot monkey BabyMilo and one with a camouflage circle-band. No word on when the shirts will be available or for how much.
— Slimer Editions flying off virtual shelves at Amazon
You might not like the swag. You might think the price is too high. But enough people out there wanted a copy of Amazon.com’s exclusive Slimer Edition that they cracked the top 250 in the sales rank. And given everything that Amazon sells, that’s absolutely amazing. So, if you’re half on the fence thinking, no sweat, they’ll always have them about, I’d think twice. Thanks, Andreas!
Exclusive Slimer Edition PS3
Exclusive Slimer Edition Xbox 360
Exclusive Slimer Edition Wii
— Gamezone offering Stay Puft pre-order incentive
Ernie dropped me a line that Gamezone is offering mini-Stay Pufts as pre-order incentives. These would be, presumably, the same as we’ve seen as tradeshow swag (similar to the Ecto-1 keychain showing up in the Amazon Slimer Edition.)
We’ll see if we can find a picture – if anyone is near a Gamezone and can confirm/get a picture, that’d be awesome.
— Play.com offers free t-shirt with game orders
More swag news for UK Ghostheads. Play.com is giving away t-shirts to those that order the Ghostbusters video game through them. It’s a basic game logo on white, compared to the figure art on the US t-shirts, but still, any swag is good swag (particularly as Amazon.co.uk had a special edition available to buy for one day, and then they canceled all orders.)
The t-shirt is available with the PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii versions of the game, but not the PS2, PC, or DS.
Even better, you can buy the game and the Blu-ray together at a special price, and collect both the t-shirt AND the Ecto-1 keychain that comes with the Blu-ray disc. Thanks, Chris!
— Ghostbuster logo belt buckles go on sale at Hot Topic
The Ghostbuster belt buckles, previously mentioned here, have gone on sale officially, at least online (probably in stores too.) Thank, Art!
— Amazon.com reveals Ghostbusters ballcap.
Amazon.com is offering a Ghostbusters ballcap, produced by BioWorld (makers of all that cool stuff Gamestop is offering) – it’s pretty cool, with it’s black and grey design and giant no-ghost logo on the front. It’s also pre-distressed, which I find kind of annoying. Call me an old man, but I like distressing my caps the old fashioned way…
…Telling it it has six-months to live (ba-dum TISH!)
Tip of the Hat, to Tim! Half-points to Paul for the pro bono writing.
[UPDATE] 80sTees has an embroidered GB cap, also from BioWorld! Check it out! Or better yet, buy it!

— Best Buy pre-order exclusive revealed.
The official Ghostbusters video game website has posted a pre-order page, which pretty much spells it out – there are four retailers with pre-order exclusives in North America;
Gamestop (t-shirt and GB2 Multiplayer skin)
Wal-mart / Sam’s Club (metallic pack)
Amazon.com (Slimer Edition)
– Exclusive Slimer Edition PS3
– Exclusive Slimer Edition Xbox 360
– Exclusive Slimer Edition Wii
Best Buy
Best Buy has not one, but two multiplayer skins, both in yellow jumpsuits (a la the Best Buy logo) – one is a jawless ghoul (dude needs a name) and Jock Mulligan (the mayor we’ve seen in the trailers, voiced by Brian Murray-Doyle.)
Thanks to Bannen and Umbrella Corp for the pics and links.
— Gamer Graffix offering massive wave of Ghostbusters skins!
Hey, remember who some of you were complaining that the Slimer Edition at Amazon only had little console character decals, not whole console skins, and you were sad?
Well, it turns out Gamer Graffix was way ahead of you.
No pictures yet, but check out the line-up of console skins and wall graffix;
– Ghostbusters 10″ x 18″ Slimer Wall Graffix
– Ghostbusters 10″ x 18″ Stay Puft Marshmallow Man Wall Graffix

– Ghostbusters 23″ x 29″ Stay Puft Marshmallow Man Wall Graffix

– Nintendo Wii Ghostbusters Stay Puft Marshmallow Man Skin
– Playstation 3 Ghostbusters Slimer Skin
– Playstation 3 Ghostbusters Stay Puft Marshmallow Man Skin
– Xbox 360 Ghostbusters Slimer Skin
– Xbox 360 Ghostbusters Stay Puft Marshmallow Man Skin
Stay Tuned!
— Exclusive look at the Gamer Graffix wall appliques
Yesterday we reported that Gamer Graffix has put up coming soon listings for a whole variety of PS3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, and wall Graffix. Well, today they’ve started revealing the art on their site – and they even sent us a first look at their wall Graffix line-up.
Check em out below – click for full sized. These are the assorted and oversized Graffix that you can put on your walls, windows, door… you name it!
ALSO: Be sure to check out GB Collector, for a look at the Slimer skin for all three systems! And check out GB Fans for their exclusive look at the Stay Puft Xbox skin!
— He's right here, Ray. He's a wall Graffix.
Gamer Graffix has sent in a picture of another wall Graffix they are taking pre-orders on – this time it’s for a five-foot tall Slimer (in particular, the one we’ve seen in the game art.) Check it out!

— Toy R Us to get exclusive Mini-mate sets. G-g-g-ghosts!

Diamond Select Toys, Art Asylum, and Toys R Us have announced the toy mega-chain will be offering a line of different 2-packs of exclusive Ghostbusters Mini-mates, due out this June;
– GB2 Winston with Terror Dog
– Egon and Library Ghost
– GB2 Venkman-in-court with Washinton Square Ghost
– Slimed Venkman with Slimer
– Mashmallow-covered Venkman Ray and red-hot Stay-Puft
That’s just wave one, suggestion additional waves later. And this is on top of the four packs previously announced for sale through specialty shops (check out Art Asylum’s figure gallery). For pictures of the humans and more info, head on over to GB Collector! While you’re there, check out their interview with DST Slimer piggy-bank sculptor, Rudy Garcia!

— Being Bill Murray T-shirt
Jeff sent this one in and it’s a gem – and everybody thinks so, judging by the fact that it’s going out of stock fast!
— Third-party Ghostbusters LEGO equipment
If you’re the sort of person that likes to work in LEGO, then there’s no doubt you can build yourself an Ecto-1, firehall, or containment unit out of bricks. But man, the space air-tanks and blaster blow as proton pack and neutrona wand stand-ins! Well, worry no more – Brickforge, makers of everything LEGO doesn’t have made some “equipment” pieces, so your GB minfigs can “bust” some “things” that “they’re not afraid of.” They made their own packs and throwers, ok? You can buy both the packs and the throwers in brown dark grey or black (with rumours of a blue for anybody hankering for a Real Ghostbusters LEGO-fest.)

[VIA GBFans]
— Art Asylum posts progress report on Stay-puft bank. Bigger!
Art Asylum has made a quick post to their website, complete with pics from the factory, on the nearly completed Stay-Puft piggy bank. The kicker…? They’ve increased the size from 8 inches to 11 inches (and with no change in price – $19.99) Thanks to JokerCard for the heads up.
— Strange tees from Strange Monkey
Strange Monkey has sensed a demand, and revealed five new t-shirts this week. Four are similar to the Venkman t-shirt we’ve seen before, but one might say these are Real-er. And the fifth looks like one we featured last year, but was yanked by Cafe Press. Check em out!
— New Ecto-1 vs. Delorean t-shirt from Truffle Shuffle
As you might have guessed from their name, Truffle Shuffle specializes in t-shirts of with an 80s bias, and this one is 80s to the max, featuring easily the two most famous cars to come out of the 80s, the Ecto-1 and Back to the Future’s Delorean. Great Scott! Thanks, Jason!
— Ghostbusters 25th Anniversary Prizes and events! Blu-ray and more!
[UPDATE] So, it looks as if we’ll have Blu-ray’s from Sony, copies of the game and other swag from Atari, game skins from Gamer Graffix, print and e-guides from Prima, signed copies of Game Informer from Terminal Reality (and I mean SIGNED), and some items I’ll be pulling from the Proton Charging collection.
But it’s not June yet, so stay tuned for Details!
So, as we head into June and the anniversary month for Ghostbusters (25 years! Doesn’t look a day over 20) Proton Charging has a lot of exciting news to share – specific details to come, but suffice to say, it’s going to keep me busy (like running this place isn’t enough work.)
For starters, we’re going to be giving away prizes from Sony, Terminal Reality, Atari, and more!
And then we’ve got not one, but TWO anniversary screenings here in Vancouver. And finally, it looks like we’re going to have a midnight release party in conjunction with Gamestop!
And it doesn’t end there, I just can’t talk about it yet! This is going to be an amazing Summer. And then I’m taking 2010 off.
So, more on all of this in the coming days, but for now, let’s all watch the Blu-ray trailer again.
Archived media references; playback may be unavailable.
— Art Asylum posts pics of Toys R Us packages
Art Asylum has posted in their blog pictures, front and side, of all the Toys R Us exclusive Ghostbusters Minimate packages. If you’re not familiar with what those exclusives will be, check here, and to see the packages, go here.
— In Russia, ghosts bust YOU!
There are times when the indomitable spirit of a true fan leaves me speechless. This is one of those times, as some Russian Ghosthead has done his level best to approximate an Ectomobile (skip the Sony Ecto-1 photo from GBFans – it’s the two afterwards you want to have a gander at.)
Frankly, if this were a television show, following a group of Russian Ghostbusters – one is ex-military, one is a Soviet scientist, one is a mechanic, and the other is a slightly dodgy con-artist – and they drove this around, I’d watch it. Religiously.
— Box shot for direct sales, four-pack Minimates
The Art Asylum blog has posted the first look at the packaging for one of the two direct-sales / specialty store four-packs of Ghostbusters Minimates. Check it out! Thanks to Ectoman57!
— Amazon exclusive Minimates packaging revealed
The package for the boss ghost four-pack of Minimates that Amazon is including in their Slimer edition of Ghostbusters the Video Game, can be seen at Art Asylum’s blog. Niiiice. Thanks to Paul at Spook Central for the link.
— Fan designs RGB Mighty Muggs – C'mon Hasbro!
Alex at TheRealGhostbusters.com has caught wind of a fan that has go ahead and designed a full set of Real Ghostbusters Mighty Muggs – wishful thinking perhaps, or maybe an awesome idea?
— Intec designs neutrona wand acessory for Wii – not confirmed
[UPDATE] Something I should have made clear here, just as it’s made clear in the linked article. This could all be a big hoax by someone that can work 3D Studio Max or Maya (thankfully, see below, Dan’s on the case at E3. Fingers crossed!)
[UPDATE] The artist who generated the images has been posting on the GBFans.com forums, talking about the job as well as showing off more concept renders. Thanks to Kingpin for the heads up, if not a link (shakes fist, old man style.)
—
Big ups to Clay, who spotted this news leak that Intec is at least pondering the possibility of releasing a Wiimote accessory that’s made to look like a proton pack thrower. The leak however points out that while the item is designed, it is still just a prototype, and no a final or approved piece of Ghostbusters merchandise.
Dan Elektro, your mission, should you choose to accept it, is find the Intec booth at E3. Assuming they’re at E3 – I can’t check the exhibitor listing right now.
Convenient timing that this was leaked today. Looking to drum up a response maybe? Oh, I’m sure it will do just that. Drooool.

— Blu-ray reviews start to roll out
Big Sound gives their review of the Ghostbusters, and in short, it’s a solid 3 out of 4 stars (I say solid because older movies tend not to shine in the eyes of AV fanatics as much as new films do.) You can read the review here.
— New Ghostbusters merch and Mad Engine has t-shirt sale!
Ooh, the fun stuff on the new Ghostbusters.com!
For starters, Mad Engine, creators of the fantastic new line of Ghostbusters t-shirts, are having a sale – buy 2, get 1 free!
But more importantly, the new GB.com, with it’s consumer products gallery, has revealed a new item or two.
Spencer’s Gifts has a Slimer backback and Stay-Puft toque (or, fine, beanie) !

[UPDATE] Besides their 2-1 sale, Mad Engine is closing out three shirt designs; Who Ya Gonna Call? and I Ain’t Afraid Of No Ghost on white, and the Ecto-1 license plate on black – each shirt is $8.99!
— Sony Blu-ray releases sneak peak clips of Ecto featurette
As if the surprise re-launch of Ghostbusters.com wasn’t enough fun for the weekend, Sony and GhostbustersIsHiring.com have released some clips from the Ecto-1 restoration featurette that will be on the Blu-ray disc.
After 25 long years of chasing ghosts Ray, Egon, Winston and Peter need a little help. So if you think you can handle big marshmallow men, a positron collider and thousands of adoring fans, submit your video application at Ghostbusters Is Hiring. If the Ghostbusters decide to hire you, your first assignment will be a trip to Comic Con 2009!
To give you some inspiration, here’s some never-before-seen footage from the new Ghostbusters Blu-ray coming out on June 16th, 2009:
Archived media references; playback may be unavailable.
— Series 2 of exclusive Toys R Us Minimates
The Toys R Us website has been updating quite a bit lately, with new Ghostbusters related items popping up – the Dancing Slimer? Yeah, he’s back (and available through Toys R Us, not just specialty stores.)
But of particular interest is that the second series of Toys R Us exclusive Minimates 2-packs have appeared (more on series 1 here), complete with pictures!
Big ups to Soupcan Mike for the tip!

— Ivan Reitman is surprise guest at Blu-ray screening.
Fangoria just let the cat out of the bag, and the special surprise guest at Wednesday’s special LA screening of the Blu-ray edition of Ghostbusters is director Ivan Reitman! Coool. For the whole story, go to Fangoria.
— "Join" the Ghostbusters Blu-ray team.
GhostbustersIsHiring.com has cracked open another part of the website, allowing fans to upload a photo of themselves, and paste it into a picture of the Ghostbusters. It is good for a laugh or avoiding work you’re meant to be doing.
— Strange Monkeys show Louis some love.
Strange Monkey has added a fifth RGB t-shirt to their line-up, this time featuring everyone’s favorite wannabe Ghostbuster, Louis Tully! Check it out. Thanks to Steven for the heads up.
— RGB Mighty Muggs made real by customizer
Remember the fan that designed the art for a line of Real Ghostbusters Mighty Muggs? Well, Miguel sent in these pics of his Venkman, made using those designs.
C’mon, Hasbro! We want these!
— Ivan Reitman talks Blu-ray, GB2 Blu-ray – Digital Bits likes the disc
Ivan Reitman was the surprise guest at last night’s Ghostbusters Blu-ray screening in LA, and he took the time to talk Ghostbusters, the game, and Ghostbusters 3 with the press. Thanks to EDFX for the heads up.
What finally made a Ghostbusters 3 a real possibility?
Reitman: I actually think the combination of both the Blu-ray release and the new game sort of awakened the thirst of at least the creators of the movie to start to rethink it more seriously, the possibility of a sequel. It’s something that’s been sort of dormant in our minds, really, for the last 10 years or so, and there have been two things that sort of told us, “Wow, people still seem to be really interested in this story, and the characters in this story.” More importantly, it sort of reawakened the joy of working on this film in both iterations.
Check out Clay Stone’s article on the event and disc here.
Ivan Reitman also spoke for a minute about his thoughts on Ghostbusters II¸ saying that although the film will never be considered as good as the original, it is still a great companion piece. He also said that, although it hasn’t been announced, he does expect a Blu-ray release of the sequel eventually, hopefully with lots of special features, as it was far better archived than the first film throughout its production. All of the previous releases of Ghostbusters II on DVD have contained little to no special features. Hopefully this will change if/when it’s released on Blu-ray.
Digital Bits had a look at the disc and gave it a solid thumbs up, with caveats.
In any case… I don’t think I’ve ever laughed harder in a movie theatre than I did back in ’84, when I first saw Ghostbusters. The new Blu-ray version is generally very good, but a few omissions from the previously available DVD extras are likely to prove a frustration for fans and collectors, and prevent the Blu-ray from being called truly great, which is too bad. Still, the improvements in video and audio quality here are very welcome, and the new bonus material (created exclusively for Blu-ray) is quite good. On the whole, the Blu-ray upgrade is still recommended… but at the right price.
— Gamer Graffix reveals ghost trap console skins
Paul over at Spook Central had a first look at a new console skin by Gamer Graffix, all of which are now available in their online store. By the looks of it, they’ve been created using photos of an actual ghost trap, then reformatted to fit a given console.

— Region 4 Extreme Ghostbusters DVD gets fan thumbs up
Jason wrote in to say that he went out and picked up the region 4 Extreme Ghostbusters DVD, with the first 13 episodes, and was happy he did;
I just wanted to let you know that I got my Region 4 “Extreme Ghostbusters” 2-disc DVD set in the mail yesterday. I’ve got a region-free player, and pre-ordered the set from Australia as soon as I saw your story about it weeks ago. As expected, there are no real extras to speak of, but it does contain the first 13 episodes of the series with impressive video and sound quality. No one who is a GB fan and owns an all-region DVD player should be on the fence about buying this. Get it now so we can get the rest of the episodes released. Or so we can show Sony there is enough interest for a Region 1 DVD set.
Well, I’m certainly considering it – Jason got his with no hassles via EasyDVD for $15 (Australian?)
— Sam's Club to auction Aykroyd-signed posters [UPDATE]
Are they auctioning them for a charity or something? Don’t know, BUT, Sam’s Club will be auctioning three Ghostbusters The Video Game posters, signed by Dan Aykroyd. The auctions will also include a copy of the game – one for the PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii. The auctions will go live on June 11th.
[UPDATE]
The auctions also include the exclusive gold proton pack, as well as the poster and copy of the game (for the PS3 and Xbox versions only.)
– PS3 Auction is live!
– Xbox 360 Auction is live!
– Wii Auction is live!
— Gamer Graffix releases PSP/DS Ghostbusters skins!
And here I was worried that my DS and PSP would be left out of the fun – Gamer Graffix has sent along pictures of Ghost Trap skins they have created for the Nintendo DS, DSI, and Sony PSP! These are similar to the Ghost Trap skins created for the major consoles (at the suggestion of a fan, no less, so don’t be afraid to tell Gamer Graffix what you’d like to see – maybe they’ll make it!)
The skins retail for $14.99 each and are available through the Gamer Graffix online store now.

— Exclusive Minimates removed from Slimer Edition and price dropped?
I’m trying to find out more information, but fans who bought one of Amazon’s exclusive Slimer Editions of the Ghostbusters video game are apparently getting the following email.
Hello,
We’re contacting you about your order for the Ghostbusters Slimer Edition video game bundle. We wanted to let you know that the items included in the bundle have changed, and as a result, the price of the bundle has been lowered.
Unfortunately, we recently learned the Minimates we expected to offer in this bundle aren’t available. We’re sorry for any disappointment this causes. To help make up for this change, we’ve lowered the price of this bundle from $129.99 to $109.99.
This change won’t impact our ability to fill your order–the release date is still June 16, and we expect to fulfill your order on time.
Again, we’re very sorry for any disappointment this causes. We hope to see you again soon at Amazon.com.
Sincerely,
Customer Service
Amazon.com
http://www.amazon.com/
The Amazon listings for the special edition of the game no longer list the Minimates set though no prices are currently listed. Thanks to Mike and everyone for the heads up. Stay tuned for more information.
— Certain Samsung players cannot play Ghostbusters Blu-ray
A gentleman by the name of @Steevoo7 made a bit of an alarming comment recently on Twitter – apparently his Samsumg BD1400 does not play the Ghostbusters Blu-ray. Samsung confirmed the problem with him and said they are working on a firmware update for the player so that the disc will play. Let’s hope that’s the only Samsung player (or any other player really) that has the problem, and that updated its firmware is painless.
This is thus far the ONLY time I’ve ever heard the disc having a compatibility issue with a player – and there are a lot of review copies out there, so it doesn’t seem to be that widespread.
— A Bathing Ape puts out another T-shirt
Not a favorite of the hardcores, but definitely of interest to the ironic or female fans, A Bathing Ape’s Ghostbuster t-shirts feature their Baby Milo character and something Ghostbusters. In this case, it’s the Ectomobile. More info here. Thanks to Santos for the heads up.

— Awesome Ghostbusters t-shirt ever needs your votes!
There are a lot of awesome Ghostbusters t-shirts out there, both official and unofficial, so I’m not fooling around when I say this is my favorite (right this minute.) It’s an old-school gamer joke, it’s a Ghostbusters 2 reference (how often does that happen?) and it looks awesome to boot.
And currently, it exists only as a possibility at Split Reason t-shirts. However, we can make this shirt happen – all you have to do it go vote. That shirt is ready to go now!
Thanks to @SchottGun for the tip! MUST! HAVE! THAT! SHIRT!
— Unofficially Aykroyd-endorsed Slimer t-shirt available!
It’s been a good week for awesome Ghostbusters shirts. Check out this awesome Slimer shirt by agliarept, and available now to buy at Red Bubble.
How cool a shirt is it? Well, Dan Aykroyd digs it;
I met Dan Akroyd on Sat in Clifton NJ and I was wearing my own Slimer shirt that I made and he looked at me said that is the coolest ghostbusters shirt he has seen and asked me where i got it. he said he wanted one. Not sure what other complement could top that!
— Slimer Edition unboxing video
Didn’t buy yourself a Slimer Edition of the game? What to experience what it’s like to get and open one? Well, Grim Santo, of IHeartCoolStuff.com, has posted a video of him opening his Wii version of the edition. Check it out! Remember, due to the Minimate exclusives being removed from the set, the Slimer Editions have gotten even cheaper!

— First Mattel figures – Egon with Slimer – available August 3rd
Mattycollector.com has announced that their exclusive line of Ghostbusters figures – one a month – will start at noon, August 3rd (Eastern), with the release of their 6 inch Egon with Slimer (this is inferred. The text does not state explicitly which figure, but rather shows a photo of the 6 inch Egon with Slimer.) No information on price. Stay tuned.
— Amazon Minimates to be made available [UPDATE]
I manged to talk to Diamond Select a bit about their Ghostbusters the video game Minimates, and it turns out they’re not gone! Fans will be able to get them, in a limited supply, at the San Diego Comic Con, with the rest shipping to specialty stores. The sets will retail for $16.
Time to start bugging your local comic shop!
[UPDATE] The first series of Minimats have landing in comic shops, where you will also be able to buy the Amazon Minimates ghosts after SDCC, and Eric has the proof.
— Diamond soliciting Ghostbusters logo bank, minimates, and license plate
This month’s Diamond distribution catalog is soliciting orders for a third (fourth if you count the Stay Puft variant) piggy bank! Shaped like the Ghostbusters logo light-sign from the front of the firehall, the SRP is $19.99US. The item is due to ship in September, if all goes well.
Last month’s Diamond catalog was soliciting orders for a replica Ecto-1 license plate, Series 2 Minimates and an exclusive two-pack, with glow-in-the-dark Slimer. It’s never too late! Check with your local comic shops now!

— Summertime sales on RGB collectors set
With no listings for the second volume of Real Ghostbusters on DVD in sight, and with the full collectors DVD set still way cheaper than buying the individual volumes in store, there’s still no time like the present to pick up the firehall-boxed set from Time-Life directly. And I mean, no time like the present, as Time-Life Canada and the US both have coupon discounts for the set!
For Canadians – code AFSLIMER, which is $35 off (making the set $145) and expires July 20th.
This is an older code that Time-Life has revived specifically for Canadians!
For Americans – code AFHOT, which is 20% off (making the set $144) and expires July 16th.
— Hallmark Ecto-1 about to hit shelves!
Eric sent in some pics of Hallmark’s shelving and display layout for the upcoming Ornament Parade, and Ecto-1 is in there, so the Saturday, July 11th release date is still a go!
— Mattel SDCC packaging revealed – 12" Ray due in September! More Mattel Q&A
A number of people posted a link to Toy News International, which has a picture of the packaging for 6″ Egon and Slimer, out this August. But what’s even better than this sneak-peak at the boxing is that the packaging confirms Mattel’s intent to release the 12″ Ray in September!
The Egon packaging is pretty sweet and highly displayable. Unfortunately the back of the packaging, filled with Egon factoids, is a hard read in the photo shown at TNI. Thanks to Terry for the heads up.
Mattycollector.com has posted their July Q&A; and someone wanted to know more about the Ghostbusters figs;
Q4. Will the Ghostbusters line be limited to the likenesses of the four main characters, or will we see other characters like Janine, Louis, Dana (with Oscar?), Zuul, Gozer or even Lord Viggo? What of a BAF Stay Puft Marshmallow Man?
A4:We are working hard with Sony to bring as many of these secondary characters and villains into the line. There are no plans for a Collect and Connect Stay Puff as he is way to big to work in that format. We will get to Mr. Stay Puff in a way that will bring him in the best scale possible.
It will be interesting to see what they do, considering NECA’s Gozer, Terror Dogs, and Stay-Puft were pretty spot-on.
— Solid Thought finds stop-motion Terror Dog mold.
USFEcto1Paul has had this up at GBfans.com for awhile and I’ve been meaning to post about it.
The Solid Thought Corporation and Steve Johnson, who created the Slimer statue for the Amazon Slimer Edition of the videogame, have found and borrowed a Terror Dog mold from Randy Cook, who originally sculpted the model.
They have some great pics of the quarter-century old mold, as well as some pics from the production of the Slimer statue!

— Minimates Checklist
Because a friend and I got to talking about the insane amount of Ghostbusters Minimates Diamond has opted to make, and because I figure some collector might find it handy, here’s a checklist of all the announced GB Minimates. Hmm. Should I make a print-out friendly version?
